Vitara driveshafts differences - auto/manual

Hi guys,

I was just looking to draw on your wisdom and ask if there's any difference between the auto & manual Vitara's driveshafts.

I have an auto one, but I'm thinking of converting it to a manual, as, after having owned several manual ones, the auto feels like I'm driving with the handbrake on (which I'm not, by the way...lol).

yes the driveshaft lenghts are different,also when changing the pedal box and shift boots make sure you get lwb parts for lwb,swb for swb,as they are slightly different,on my conversion i left the transmission module connected as otherwise the check engine light would light up and i took the globe out from the overdrive indicator in the dash cluster to stop it flashing.You will also need to bypass the inhibiter switch (lets you start car only in park or neutral).

The 4speed auto is different but the 3speed auto is the same as the manual.

Thanks for that info guys.

Fortunately (depending on how you look at it) I'm driving the 3-speed auto (carby model car), so it would appear from your advice that the driveshafts may be the same, and I won't have to worry about all the EFI-ism's like Check Engine lamps, etc.

I forgot to add this critical info in my original post.

Now all I gotta find is a reasonably priced pedal set, manual gearbox, centre console...

Don't forget the diffs too as they are different ratios.
