Post by zookboy »

i have a hilux i have just purchased it has cross over steering and rears up front with a bar and a winch i find the front really stiff anyone know how to make it a real soft ride or what springs to put in the front to make it softer but can hold the wait and how many leaves should the springs have in it.

Dude,

I did this swap in my truck

it was AGES ago though. You definately gotta ditch the load bearing
leaf (REALLY thick bastard at the very bottom..usually the shortest one).
and I think I removed one more as well.

I got lots of flex in the front end now, but mine have been very pre-loved
and now give no resistance at all to flex...which is goooood!

Just remove the load leaf, bolt your shizzle back together and wheel it
dude. If it is softer...you win. If not, repeat process with another leaf.
Also, see if you can find someone who has the last 3 leaves from the
front pack. I'm pretty sure I used only the main leaf (with the eyes) and the one below it. The other 3 leaves are from the front pack.

Hope that helps ya

Cheers,
Bart

Welcome to the ride quality of a hilux..

I had those "rockcrawler" springs in my previous hilux (83) and were the worst things i could have bought... sooo stiff it was hard to stay on the road. Had a few leaves taken out too. Flexed ok but still very shit ride.

Let us know how they go in the front if ya do get em.
