Suzuki Sierra (small motor, easy to start) with good, fully charged 80Ah battery and new Engel (low current draw motor) - chances are good you'll be OK (if you're careful...)
Diesel 'Cruiser/Patrol (large motor, harder to turn over) with dodgy 45Ah battery and Chescold running on 12V? Hope you like warm beer...

OK, 89 Runner, with a weak spark (first prob ) can be hard to start on occasion, although she's been good recently. Not 100% sure on the battery, think its a 440cca.
Fridge is a Bushman (www.bushman.com.au - the main fridge on the page) here's the bit you prob want
Its very easy on the battery. In fact no other 40Ltr fridge draws less power than the Bushman. With refrigerator set at -4c @ 24c ambient the Bushman uses a mere 16 Amp hours per day.

Yep. Probably don't need to start every few hours, but better to be safe.
A 440cca battery won't be big, so it's probably a nominal 40Ah (or less), and if it's old its capacity is probably lower again. So you'd be lucky to start your 4Runner after 24 hours.
Just run the fridge, till everything gets cooled down and or frozen, whichever you need it, then at night just turn it off. Still should maintain temp through till morning
If ur gonna buy a new battery anyway, get a deep cycle. If its a wet cell then put it in a battery box in the boot. Better bet is a sealed battery (AC Delco, Delkor, Optima etc) hen there is no gas when it charges.
Run the fridge off the seperate battery. When u are driving, plug a cable into the cigarete lighter socken and charge the deep cycle battery. Then when u have some time, buy a redarc isolator and install it all properly
Thats what I'd do.
Also, make sure the battery isn't loose in the car (or the fridge fo rthat matter) Its a lot of weight to have flying around in the unlikely event of and accident)

This is why I like my 3 way chescold, I know I have to carry a gas bottle (cheaper than a dual battery setup) but it will last nearly 7 days on 4kg of gas.
