VT V8 into GQ What Extractors?
Im in the process of fitting a VT Commodore V8 into my GQ and found that the passenger side exhaust manifold clashes with the chassis.
I have tried to get some block huggers but they dont make them for the VT.
What exhaust manifolds have been used before or will work? Or will it need to be a custom job? Keeping in mind i want to keep my pto winch.

I think you've answered your own question and custom is the only easy option
Hi, yes i did the same conversion and had problems with this also. They do make block huggers for the vt, but still require mods to make them miss the engine mounts, not much tho, just a matter of cutting about an inch below the collector, and running a 2 1/2 pipe off it. Castle Auto Electrics and Exhuast services make them, ch-75 or ch-91 is the part number i had, if u ring them and have a chat they can give u the right one. Still needs moding ike i said, but not too hard, cost is 495 for the huggers. www.castleauto.com.au

with mine, i had what they call HSV headers.... i guess i have to believe what i'm told... had problems with the flange on the bottom hitting on the chassis and the adaptor plate. I took it to the zorst guy and he extended it by 4" and it fits fine. It's a cheap fix. Cost me $25 to get it done. I'll see if i got pictures of it modified.

My GQ with the Holden 5 Litre EFI uses the standard VR series Cast manifolds and standard engine pipes , the rear of the engine pipes was cut off and a flange welded to it to join the the rest of the exhaust system
The VR series manifolds fit like factory in the GQ. Can post pics if you need.

Will post pics on weekend for you. VN had tubular steel manifold , they looked like headers but always suffered from cracks where the 4 pipes join into the collecter. Avoid these. VR had 2 really neat fitting manifolds that hug the block unlike the VS/VT manifolds which stick out.doddzee wrote:Thanks for your replys guys.

I read somewhere that an left side exhaust manifold from an earlyer holden V8 would fit within the chassis rails it, might have a look around and try and find some VR/VN manifolds and see if they will work.

I used Marks 4x4 Adapters Holden V8 - GQ Chassis mounts. The rubber mounts on the engine block side are standard VN V8 Commodore.doddzee wrote:Thanks, That looks like a really tidy conversion.

Your engine mounts look like thay sit a fair bit lower than mine have you bent not the top peice of the engine mount over the chassis rail?
What type of fan set-up have you used?
Radiator is HQ - HZ V8 Air conditioning (3 row) modified to be rubber mounted. The fan is standard Holden VN and fan shroud is HQ - HZ V8.
Fits really nice and Holden radiators are like only $220 for a new one in the box and being original Holden the hose connection are in the right spot.
Altenator is the standard VN 85 Amp with the adjuster lengthened so that the unit sits out a bit more to clear the GQ Oil pressure sender. Power steering is a modified VN bracket with a VS V6 Commodore pump with remote resivoir. It runs the standard V8 pulley on the V6 Pump.

i used a clutch fan from a VK 5 litre and put an alloy 50mm spacer behind it to bring it into the shroud, although i used a diesel radiator in mine, saves trying to adapt the Holden one. You just need to make a hybrid bottom hose from an EA falcon and a VP commodore.

The Holden radiator is now a bolt in fit. Heaps cheaper to replace as well.
Had this conversion in since 1998 , Kevin Wiliams did the engineers in early 99
