LN106 speedo problem

Post by I'll Try »

I have a problem with the speedo in my hilux. it is a 91 diesel and the speedo sometimes works but other times flutters between 0 and 160km/h. im pretty sure it is an electrical speedo.
Just wondering if anyone has come across this problem before.
I'm quite sure it would be a short some where or even the sender but hope fully some one can save me some time.

Thanks guys

Had the same problem with my old hilux would be sitting at lights and then the bloody thing would hit 160 and then bounce around like crazy or you could be driving along and the same thing would happen bounce around for while......

my problem was the sensor in the box which i replaced and it was all good

Mite also be a idea to check the plug aswell as the wires on mine had pulled out a bit after i replaced the sensor and it stopped work but put the wires back in and all was good again..

Hope this helps

Cheers Dave

if its a 91 diesel with a solid front its most prolly a mechanical one
ifs i got no idea....
crawl under your truck and look at the transfer case just where the tail shaft exits to the rear diff on the drivers side there should be a cable comming from the transfer , that should be the sender for the speedo.
check to see if its damaged mabyee follow the cable check if its kinked etc..
un screw it and try turning it by hand see how it feels, its its a mech one the cable costs about $30 and is pretty simple to replace.
