MK SD33T no power - please help!!
MK SD33T no power - please help!!
hey
my 1984 mk sd33t is extremely hard to start - would fire on 2 cylinders and then stall. it took 6 or 8 attempts of lengthy glowing and starting before it would start. i then primed it using the hand pump - when i initiated the pumping alot of air burst out and then i was able to pump.
once i got it started the following happened - this was when it was fully warm
- would not rev - very very slow revving i could get to 2800rpm but usually
- couldnt get out of 2nd gear on the road
- diesel filter is leaking (the one near the fire wall) has been for a few weeks
- it is firing on all 6 cylinders once warm so injectors are ok?
i have removed the air filter incase that was blocked.
what could be causing this?
- leaking fuel filter is letting air into the fuel system and thus not giving me pure fuel?
- faulty injector pump (i have had the fuel increased accordingly to compensate for increased boost)
-faulty injectors?
-glow plugs? (they are only used for cold starts right?)
Any suggestions are welcomed as this is my weekend rig and i need to take my cr500 to the dunes this Sunday!!!!
Cheers guys!

hey guys
i changed the filter near the firewall - this stopped the sucking noise i could hear previously. but the car still wont start.
what else can i look for?
I have primed the pump manually and alot of diesel is coming through.
are there any tricks i should know about?
I need the patrol up and going so i can move some furniture later !!!

check your glowplugs mate you could have a few glowplugs out or your glowplug timer module isnt working, first turn the ignition on and make sure you have voltage at the glowplugs, then if u do take the rail that joins the glowplugs off and test each glowplug btween the top of the plug and the head with a multimeter set to check resistance and each glowplug should give you a reading, if it doesnt it means it is u/s and must be replaced

Try disconnecting the rod from the actuator and setting the arm on the injection pump in the RUN position. See if it starts then. There is a fair bit of discussion on www.binderbulletin.org about problems with the actuator.

Havent got the manual to hand, but from memory, there are 3 positions for the arm on the pump. Start,STOP and RUN. I think when starting, the lever moves to the START position, then moves back to RUN when the engine starts. Lever moves back to STOP to stop the engine. The actuator motor controller is controlled by a box that among other inputs, has a feed from the oil pressure sender. If no oil pressure (engine running in reverse--can happen with inline type injection pump), controller will send signal to the actuator to shut the engine down.
