A LITTLE HELP PLEASE (WHATS THIS SWITCH FOR?) LJ 70

Post by Ravenous Rhino »

hi in the picture below (THIS IS NOT MY ENGINE JUST FOR REFERENCE)there is a vacuum pipe behind the alloy inlet pipe, from the vacuum pump to this small switching valve. then it goes to the injector pump. i have just replaced my 2.4 2lt engine with the 3.0 1kz one. As you will probably know there are a few differences in the two. from what i can make out this switch shuts of the vacuum from the pump and is controlled by something.
if i have valve in closed position truck goes fine boost presure rises but doesnt pull really hard. if i open the valve boost goes up and it pulls very well. Now this swith is there for a reason, this i know but what? does it shut off boost fuel if overboost accures or is it switched only at high boost pressur. if someone knows what it is for and its correct operation then i can maybe get it to work as i had to modify engine loom from 2.4 to get all electrics working. thanks

it bolts to the alloy pipe but is not connected to it in any way.

Thats the pressure release valve. Too high pressure and it opens.

i dont think it is because one end of the pipe that comes from it goes to the vacuum pump and then throgh the valve to the back of the injector pump. i think it more likely to be an overboost valve to shut off the extra fuel that is injected during boost as sugested by modified toy.

Looks like a VSV (Vacuum Solenoid Valve) which will be switched by something to do with boost. Can't help as to where and what it will be wired to.

Someone on the Surf Forum could probably help.

You may find something here -
