chiptuning gu (gr) 2,8 TD intercooler y61 1999 mod.

Post by turboleif »

anyone who has a chiptuned 2.8?

i wondering is the NM much better on lower RPM.
i would have the turbo to start at about 1300-1400 RPM
is it impossible

and what is NM and HP chipped?

i want less gearing hehe.. the turbo is starting about 1900-2000 RPM now.
maybe wants to swap turbo, any recomendation?
any links to a shop who is selling chip in AUS.

the chip here in norway cost me about 1200 AUS dollar

thanksful for answers

Look into swapping a TD42T in instead ... could work out cheaper in the long run ...

IVE GOT A 2.8 AND IVE JUST HAD A 2.5" MANDREL STRAIGHT THROUGH EXHAUST PUT ON. THE TURBO USED TO SPOOL UP AROUND 1900 RPM AS YOU SAID BUT WITH THE EXHAUST IT SPOOLS ON AROUND 1300 RPM.
I THEN BLOCKED THE EGR VALVE WHICH HAS MADE IT SPOOL ON AT 1100 RPM. MUCH BETTER TO DRIVE NOW. HOPE THIS HELPS.
ALSO THE CHIPS HERE IN OZ ARE AROUND $1200 AUD ASWELL.

I think there should be a section in the bible dedicated to getting more power out of the 2.8, from what I have researched your options are:

1. Exhaust, 3" Mandrel Bend, with Dump Pipe, muffler optional.

2. Boost, have two PSi settings, plenty or types: http://www.turbosmart.com.au/

3. Computer Modules:

To block the EGR I simply made a T shaped peice of metal that is about 2 mm thick and undid the nuts which hold the EGR valve in place, wiggled the valve back a bit and slid the T shaped metal in the slot to block it. You cant tell its even blocked off looking at it. I did it about 2 months ago and have had no troubles at all. Its quite a common mod I found when I researched it. The Toyota Surf Forum was very helpfulfor this.
