exactly right, sure he knows what hes doing but there are heaps of other workshops doing turbo's. Ontrack know what his doing, check out his website http://www.ontrack4x4.net.au/TurboCharge.htm and yer sandy from Aus4wd has experience. Im assuming its diesel in a ute, JPC does get a bit of power out of the diesels.morkz wrote:Hardly any comp guys go to JPC anymore.bigbennymq wrote:if it was me just sick wit jpc they do awesome work and cheap, look on everyones comp rig they get there turbos done by jpc

Not sure about ontrack with diesel, but i know they do nice petrol turbo work.
Sandy has a nuts turbo that no one else has or even come close i have driven JPC turbo's and yes they make power but to late in the rev range not what your really when you want low down grunt.
Kym Boltons rig has 220kw but its all top end sandy drove a red gq middy turbo diesel at alpine and was quicker out of the box than some of the turbo petrols.
Sandy has all match legth manifolds none of this one peice cast type like most of the others use such as JPC.

Is JPC the guy that got done over by Vic Roads for illegal structural mods to VL commodores? Someone was cutting a 4" hole thru the chassis rail to run the piping for intercoolers.morkz wrote:Not sure about ontrack with diesel, but i know they do nice petrol turbo work.

I recently rang both JPC and Aus 4WD to enqiure about a roller bearing upgrade and there was nothing in the price difference. JPC was around $3200 for drive in drive out and Aus was $2100 just for the turbo, by the time you ad all other cost it would be roughly the same.morkz wrote: He's to expensive and so what if someone has a sticker on the truck thats says done by JPC.
If i could go back and get a different turbo, I would buy from Sandy. I have a JPC turbo on my diesel and it is making good HP But it comes on pretty late in the rev range (2400/2600 for good boost) Sandy's is coming on heaps lower, thus giving you a lot fatter HP range- sandy is an awesome guy to deal with.sootygu wrote:I recently rang both JPC and Aus 4WD to enqiure about a roller bearing upgrade and there was nothing in the price difference. The arnt the same turbo either, totally different and they arent the comp spec turbo that daniel would be running either.sootygu wrote:I recently rang both JPC and Aus 4WD to enqiure about a roller bearing upgrade and there was nothing in the price difference. So yeah I still do believe hes far more expensive than most of the others out there on the market.

hey dude i'm not bagging anyone and this was in reference to diesel anyway i know mark does more turbo petrol anyway i have seen his work for turbo petrols and not many people are using him for that or diesel due to the costs associated.frigga 40 wrote:well you guys have to rememberwho was the first to start turboing petrol nissan and it was mark he has done mine and many others as for the rest of them well they are just as good no need to bag out jpc you knob morks
I dont have a problem with Mark, i just wouldnt go there because of the price and as some people have already mentioned after using mark they would go else where.
everyone thinks hes the only person and there are many other people out there, but hey mate you seem to know everything so i will leave it at that.

turbo
Calm down guys there is enough business for every one in this industry.
First of all I didnt get my car turboed at JPC however I rang him just over a year ago for a standard DTS kit and he quoted me $2800 for the kit.
Now thats a bargain for a complete brand new DTS kit, so he is not that expensive after all.
He has an option for extra $500 he modifies the turbo, its still cheap in my books.
However I set up a full ball bearing turbo kit on my diesel with intercoler for $4000.
I bought the turbo from MTQ which cost around $1400 and that was a t28 ball bearing, plus custom manifold and intercooler, with the pump tricked up extra cost I was getting around 175kws at the wheels. It was bloody quick.
sandy is still pretty cluey with the diesel as he has done a few of them and drives off road so he know when the power is required.
There are places like race tec, diesel tec, sandy jpc, ontrack, mate go with who you feel comfortable with and who will do the best deal for you.

what was the manifold worth?gqmad wrote:I bought the turbo from MTQ which cost around $1400 and that was a t28 ball bearing, plus custom manifold and intercooler, with the pump tricked up extra cost I was getting around 175kws at the wheels. It was bloody quick.
so $1400 for turbo, manifold and intercooler? and the pump was the +$? Im there.
turbo
It was around $2800 or something and that having everything fitted including, manifold, intercooler, and all pipes and fittings etc.
Basically I supplied the turbo and the car and he fitted made and fitted everything, for that sum.
I cant remmember how much the pump was. Give andrew from diesel tech a call 9739 5031. It may be something like $3000 or $4000 or something like that for the pump. Basically they reco the whole lot and put bigger head etc etc. on it.
For under $8000 you can have a diesel with 170 odd kw at the wheels and still be an economical tourer.
A mate of mine put a vh45 in his patrol, and I think my diesel would have blown the doors of his.

Gee thats some decent power. Sounds great! Thought it would be a lot more coin than that for 170rwk outa a diesel. Giving me to much o think about!gqmad wrote:It was around $2800 or something and that having everything fitted including, manifold, intercooler, and all pipes and fittings etc.

My GQ has a JPC turbo though my pump was not done by Mark. His pump ( that Trent is running) delivers more fuel than mine over 4,500RPM, (where my fuels starts to run out around then...though that is good for the sand as with no fuel the EGT's also are limited).
I got a price from Mark just prior to this years OBC for his pump, as a chngeover on a standard and it was less than $3,000..... all up. with a RWK at 200+ from a diesel using my existing JPC turbo.
Expensive??? I don't think so, Denco and many others charge around $2,500 for the pump work, and I am unsure if they deliver the same power.
Al Cuthill is running a 'Sandy' turbo on his diesel, and the same pump as me, we are both running 4.6's and the same tyres. I have a front mount intercooler and Al has a water/air. I believe Al has better excelleration than me, but I think he is runnig 25+ boost, where I am under 20.
So what does all this mean, ??? it doesn't matter what set up you get, they can all work well, but boost / fuel / piping / intercooler can all influence the output.
Conversly I have seen some VERY bad combinations aa well, though usually done at home on mates 'advice'.

TIGGR6 - Got the plates but not the car...
Apologies for digging up an old thread guys....DanielS wrote:If i could go back and get a different turbo, I would buy from Sandy. Got the specs on that turbo? Front and rear A/R, exhaust flange type, brand, BB???
Cheers
To move the power up or down in the rev range is simply a change of exhaust housing A/R, however, a smaller A/R housing will not only spool faster but will be more of a restriction causing higher pressures pre turbo which in turn retains more heat and have higher EGT's. We select the turbo for the application, different A/R's for standard pumps and modded pumps. This restriction can also reduce the peak power figure.
Cheers
