a mechanic was telling me the other day that putting a 6cyl motor out of a xe-xf (i think it was those models) is a great motor for the bundy.
he said it needed to be the cross flow aluminium something or rather. but he said the good thing was that the torques is better than the commodore v6 and cheaper. he also mentioned that you wouldn't need a wiring harness...
the cost he broke down were.
motor: $400
adapter kit: $1000
Labour:$1000
this sounds like a cheap conversion.
whats everyones thoughts? does he have any clue what he is talking about or not?

Yeah I totally agree with that. Get the tape measure out and see how you go for length with it. Also, got to be easier to set up then that of EFI. Yeah, I'd be curious as to whether it would fit. The Ford six is a big engine. I would be hesitant for the shear size, and the fact that carbies don't like angles. Something that 4B's are known to do on occasions. Nothing worse than following your mates to find that you can't do it as the power plant keeps snuffing due to lack of go go juice.

250 xflo good motor plenty of power and aftermarket parts available for them to get even more power, ur bundera engine bay wouldn't be to much shorter than a fj73. better conversion than a comodore v6 in my mind

i used to own an XF and the 250 crossflow can handle a fair bit of punishment... they go fairly well and have torque out the wazoo
and as for more power ... i turbo'd mine and it was awesome... many people make turbo kits and they are cheap engines to replace when they bite the dust... they also came in an efi version if you wanted to over come the angle problem but... more $$$
i think it would be a great conversion and on gas it would be even better (duel fuel anyway...)
i would have a 250 over a commonwhore V6 but hey thats just me it depends what you want...

Speak to an engineer before you do anything... If they decide they'll only pass emmissions on an EFI then u want to know that first.
In the conversion allow at least $1000 for exhaust (get it done right the first time, trust me) and a good $500 worth of misc. crap such as belts, hoses etc. it all adds up pretty quick
Then factor in power steering and air con if u have those.
Also, when u size up the engine, take into acount the size of the bellhousing adapter too.
As long as u know exactly what ur up for before u start, sounds like it'll be good.

You did think wrong, bundys never came out with bigger motor than the 1pz 5cyl diesel and yes a 3f is bigger than a 250 crossflow but they are both on a par as far as crap motors go. Like all ford motors of that era at 100,000 on th dot it will blow a headgasket, they don't like water and are a very thirsty under developed engine, yeah parts are available any were but theres a reason for that! If you are looking for a cheap conversion engiine with some balls you can buy a V6 or V8 vn-vp and some vr's for betweem $700 and $1000 a conversion kit will cost you between $600 and $1000 and labour is not much different, but on the whole a much better option as far as driveability and all situations, economy, power, and value for money, my 2cjugger wrote:i thort bundys came with a 3F at some stage . there probly a bigger motor than a 250 xfow . but i culd be wrong.

you can get the efi ones for sfa bout 400 and are a very simple efi system to wire up and are pretty good on fuel and have more power that the carby job

The there is his speedway cortina. Methanol fueled and runs harley davidsone s&s pistons to handle the high comp. Needs aero start to start it caus eof the cam and timing, But man it is still competitive after 6 seasons without a rebuild.

I think you're thinking of the crappy motor used in the EA-EL's. The 250 x-flows have lasted way over 300kms without having to get a headjob. If you read his earlier post. reason he's going a x-flow is cause he can pick it up for $300. Both holden or ford motors a pretty good.
