High mount

Post by cloughy »

bought a high mount for 200 buckaroonies and i'm giving it some new seals and a brake kit, all is well and good until i try to pull the brake apart, i used my lovely chinese 6 ton press on the shaft and nothing but a passing bottle jack!

Any ideas im thinking i may have to drill and tap some holes and use a puller, hopefully not, how much pressure have you put on your brake assembly's to get them to budge? what else have you tried?

cloughy theres some good tips in the winch bible somewhere, there is also a good thread on Pirate see here http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/8274/

I've heard they can be a real biarch to get apart, mine has always come apart easy which is funny cos it was rusted like a bastard.

Good luck with it.

Just been cleaning up the friction pad surfaces and they're rather pitted and shitty, what have you done to resolve this?? taken a skin of the faces and shimmed it or just leave it be and it should work fine
