Hub Jammed

Post by rogerramjet »

Hi All

The front right hub on my sierra is jammed locked. The selector still moves easily from free to locked and back but the hub remains locked to the axle.

Spose I just need to pull the hub apart and see whats going on. Any thoughts on what the problem might be and tips on pulling hubs apart?

Thanks

Roger

probably rust and/or mud in there.
Pull apart with care, or the spring comes off and is hard to get back together.

Pull the hub apart, and most likley the locking collar has jumped off the spiral spring that moves it on and off. Just remove it, clean, inspect and re-fit it correctly, and you should be right. Make sure there are no burs where the collar slides, as these may make it bind up and lock in place.

Well I took the hub apart, and I think what lay80n said was correct. When moving the selector from lock to free it retracts but does not pull the locking collar. I guess I just need to thread the spring through the locking collar?

Just thread it back on. If you cant figure out how it goes together, and your other hub is okay, you cant figure out where things go, look at both, as they are the same mechanism.
