Bore out block of 2L-T to become 5L-T????

Post by gogo »

I had a crazy idea last night. Rather than buy a whole new engine I may as well trash my existing engine and mod it a little. We all know about the 2L, 3L and 5L engines.

Whats the largest capacity I could bore out my 2L-T engine to? Presently its 2446cc, but would really like to goto 3000cc.

Wow, that certainly would boost my pride!!!

Any ideas anyone?

toyota surf forun had a post ages ago about someone who used a 3l crank in a 2lt. however they had problems trying to get the compession lower enough. without customs rods and/or pistons it can be tricky.

you might be able to bore it out to and fit 3l pistons provided there is enough meat left in the bores.

frankly it would be cheaper just to swap blocks and fit a 3l reco'd block. fitting a 5l gets tricky as engine mounts are different and i think manifolds are different.

Thats what I mean. I would just bore out the cylinders to the max size possible and use 3l or even 5l pistons.

So can this be done or is there some other avenues I would have to change. For me just use bigger pistons and leave the rest alone.

The 2LTE belongs to the 2 generation of toyota small diesels, there is the 2L, 2LTE, 3L, 5L, 5LE, (NOT 1KZ, totally different) basically the same Block casting, just diff bores, cranks, pistons, All 8 bolt cranks, same heads, the 3L and 5L are the same crank. Check with engine recyclers wher you live and find a 5LE there are the sep2000 onwards EFI 3 litre, all of your 2LTE stuff will bolt to it, just get the bare short motor, reco it and you have what you want without, sleeving/boring/custom pistons etc.

i thought the 5L head was different, the 2lt manifolds don't bolt straight up like on the 3l. it would also pay to measure the block height just to make sure.

i think someone on the surf site did bore a 2lt out but i think they hit a rust spot whihc ment resleeved or new block.
