Frontera snorkel
Hi guys I am new around this forum and very happy to see it exists, I just have a qquestion if anyone can help me. Does anybody out there know how the 2002 Isuzu Challenge rodeos got snorkels I have tried emailing TJM but they dont seem to want to answer me, must be because I own a frontera as nobody in australia (or here in canberra at least) seems interested in selling me any gear . So if anybody has any usefull info that will help me make my 2002 frontera better off road i would greatly appreciate it
P S Does anybody know how much a calmini lift kit is, 4wd usa and kaos 4x4 dont seem to want my money either.
thanks in advance.

There isn't a snorkel kit (yet) for a Frontera. I know the Rodeo's have them, but that is a question mark...
Lifting your Frontera, not sure about Calmini, but you can get from TJM (if they take your money ) A TJM 2.5" lift kit will set you back $840.00 supplied and fitted.
Up here in Blacktown they are helpful.
Cheers

Have you tried to sign up through the Yahoo groups.
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/OzZuZu/?yguid=79863830
You should be able to register through there. I often have trouble with username/password in Yahoo so hopefully it works better for you.
The other thought is that the group is not as active these days and maybe they are not taking new members...
Good luck.

G'day Guy's,
Work and life keeps me away from the boards these days so sorry if you have all missed me Workload is freeing up a bit now I am back in sydney so hopefully I'll be online a bit more in the future.
Yarno,
you need to sign up and be approved by scott (MIB) or me (ozzuzu). We have knocked back a few applicants of late due to sus email addresses. Email me direct to let me know whjen you have doone it and I'll approve it straight away.
We are not as active these day's that is true, but we don't seem to get as many Q's as we once did. I'd like to see it like it used to be. Jeez, we even hads regular chat room sessions.
I notice you are up in newcastle. You should join up with us next time we do a run at Freemans or the Watagans.
Bacdef,
Who did you speak with at Kaos? I know them well and cannot understand them not wantting to help.
They are Calmini importers, but we do have all the info you need to lift it up. There are a number of options you can look at and time over I would have gone the same way scott did with his.
BTW, There is also a local Jeep club (I'm ex VP) that'll take you into the fold, even though you own a fronterra. We have three members that still own them (CJ and Steve Rigney and Max) so at least you'll be in good company.

Thanks for that Brad. Good to see you here.
Thanks to David at Ozzuzu. Here's his response to the snorkel question.
Though you guys will see it yourself if you get onto Ozzuzu...
"The snorkel is a genuine Holden "92 td Rodeo unit made by Safari.
Fits OK but needs a new delivery pipe from the guard inlet to the
airbox. I have the details of what was needed but haven't taken it
off to do a new template.
It creates induction roar at low speeds with a bit of right foot.
Sounds great offroad and louder again with the foam Unifilter.
It was perfect up the Cape. I hate to think what the air filter
woudl have been like without it and I didn't really give water a
thought after the first deep crossing".

I too have seen them but have no experience with them I have a list of stuff I want to get from there money willing.
TJM lift is good value for $840. I did mine no worries for about $500. If you handy with a spanner it is dead easy, if a bit sus, pay the extra go for a coffee and pick it up later.
Steve Rigney and I did his later in about 3 hours and 40 minutes of that was cutting his shocky out of the back.

Just a quick idea from a mate, after he read the january edition of 4wd monthly, in it there is a suzuki and the guy who owns it has a custom snorkel that sucks air through the glove box, can anybody see a downside to this as I feel if water is that deep in the cab Im stuffed anyway.
If anyone can answer my question I would be very interested to know if you think its worth giving a try as the other half is a little picky on the looks so without a moulded snorkel this is my only option.

Forget the glove box idea. Mine's noisy enough on the roof without it being inside. I have a friend who works for TJM and he has been looking at my snorkel because he can't find anything to fit. If he comes up with another solution I'll let you know. Of course there is always the 3" Stainless Steel solution. If I could find a way to post photos here I would show you what mine looks like. Those of you on the Ozzuzu yahoo group can see it in the photo section.

Thanks that rodeo one looks the goods, the noise outside shouldnt be a problem the stereo should drown that out and if it doesnt Ill get a louder stereo is there much work involved in the fit, and is it a safari or a genuine holden or both and were would be the best place to get one, I am very keen for a snorkel as my only doubts takeing the frontera offroad are water crossings.
Thanks for all the help guys

Daz, depening on how handy you are with a knife, some rubber and a bit of styerne foam.... go to clark rubber, buy the foam and the rubber... make up a blank from the foam, and mod ur self a little spacer to sit between the panel and the elbow of the snorkle... then mark it out carefully on the rubber, carve it up.. and swap it over. Ive never fitted a snorkle so have no experience in the process, but dont see why it wouldnt work, cheaper than a buying a new truck, and then u will have a snorkle
Orrr.. make urself a PVC Stormwater Pipe one.. and keep the cap off the snorkle to fit your new, unltra cool PVC one
