V8 into Hilux

Post by Weiner »

Bought a '89 Lux a couple weeks ago, it needs a rebuild, and a full rebuild is pretty pricy.

Thinking of putting in a 302 or 350 in it instead.

Wondering how much work will need to be done to put one in.

Cheers.

Not too hard, you will need an adaptor kit, radiator, engineers certificate etc.

If its price you want get a rebuild or 2nd hand engine.

Been quoted around $4500-$5000 for a total rebuild, crank and all.

What is the 253 like in the lux?

One thing you also need to consider with an engine conversion is all of the small stuff you need to buy, it adds up. Having just done one i know.

I do have a mate with a rolled Hilux fitted with a 2.8 Turbo'd intercooled engine he wants to sell.

How much for the whole thing? Or just the engine.

Allow at least 2500-3000 dollars to do the conversion properly.. can be done cheap but will without doubt brake down. gearbox will not last under any circumstances so dont believe any one who says it will, they are full of shit, they should not be allowed to sell bell housing kits to suit v8's for such crap box's.. A auto will work better as it is made for the motor unless your willing to slash out on a dyna box.. over heating is also a problem, so short answer is can be done quite easily and will be reliable if done right.,

Yep, the brother and his mates are very mechanically minded, so thats not a problem.

Might just whack in a 2.8TD.
