just off brindabella road theres 3 big bogs up there and a bit of a climb up the wall of the quary i heard what sounded like a nissan in one of the bogs but by the time i got there thay were gone. so i drove my r/c crawler throu it no worrys. im going down to vic this weekend to finish the v8 conversion on sangas 60 we should catch up and go for a run .

Batteries are dangerous.

I went to pick up a manifold I was having welded the other day. The guy looked a bit shaken - he had just charged a battery, left it on the shop floor and started gas cutting close by. I am not sure if he had forgotten to tighten the battery caps but a spark ignited the hydrogen - blew the top clean of the battery and splattered him with acid. Fortunately he was wearing goggles so he only got the acid on his face and overalls and a foot-operated water spray was handy.

This guy is very experienced but as he said himself he just got careless. I took my boys down to show them the remains of the battery as a lesson. A lesson for me too!

im sure here in NSW its illegal to have a standard battery in where passengers are. only sealed are allowed

Lift the rear seat on any old VW beetle and I don't think you'll find too many sealed batteries. Probably explains why they keep catching fire and burning to the ground.

Sounds great. Will have to go take a look at the bogs - once I get the snorkel connected up that I only recently discovered the dealer only got put on as an "ornamental" snorkel. He didn't actually get it connected up because of the weird airfilter system in my vehicle, but bodgied it up to look like it was connected, and only found out the truth when I had to remove the entire air filter assembly to do some other work.

There was a guy just the other day at Autobahn in Belconnen (I was lookin for battery boxes) with an open top Patrol that was thick with a major crust of mud that he said he'd gotten at "the bogs up round the old quarry"
He also told me it's "off brindabella rd"
Problem is there's a lot of tracks "off Brindabella Rd"

Is it on the right, or on the left, After Piccadilly circus, or before it, even a rough guide will help, and I'll grab out all my maps of the Brindies and see if I can find any old quarries, but narrowing it down a bit will make the job a whole lot easier.

Happy to meet up with anyone from the forum for a drive. I don't have lift and don't have muddies (just quite chunky AT's) , but front and rear lockers can do wonders sometimes.

its before Piccadilly circus on the left about half way from the bitumen and Piccadilly circus it had a big fancy sign saying somthing about brindabela natinal park or somthing along those lines thats where the turn off is its about 500 meters or so once you tirn off to a prety easy climb but would be tricky in the wet once on top of the climb sharp left and theres 3 bogs in a row easy this time of year but when there full of water the third one is deep enough to make your car float

I think I'll head up that way today since I have the day off, though will have to assess the bogs pretty carefully since I found my snorkel is only ornamental, and not actually functional. Might go via the car dealer and have a little chat with the manager about the snorkel actually now I think of it again.

wont have any trouble with out a snorkel at the moment but when theres been a bit of rain you will want one

The bogs are pretty dry ... they were last Tues night anyway ...... and the fawkin dust jeeeeeesuz we need rain.

Yeah, but the good thing about that sort of dryish bog is the fact that the mud is much thicker and stickier, so the truck comes home looking like it OUGHT to look instead of coming home looking like it was left out in some dirty rain.
