Priming fuel filters

Post by GUJohnno »

I have one of those Cav fuel filter adapters on ny GQ diesel.
I cleaned out the bowl earlier and now I cant start the truck.

I have filled the bowl as much as I can but when i try to prime the pump there doesn't seem to be much happening and I can't build up the pressure.

Any ideas? I need it to get to work tommorrow...

Chers,
Johnno.

I just kept pumping the top of the fuel filter for a few minutes.

It ran rough for a few seconds, but was sweet asfter that.

Hope you don't have to bleed the injectors

some CAV filters have a bleed nipple on the housing, otherwise use the bleed nipple thats on your engine, youl waste more diesel but it will get the job done.

On my HJ60 its on the housing for the OEM fuel filter, but im sure other cars/engines could have them just about anywhere.

I ended up getting a mechanic over to help out as I had flatened the battery as well trying to get it going.
Cracked open the injectors to let the air out and then she fired up.
But the filter wasn't sealing properly, so we had to pull that back out and re-fit and go through it all again.

All up the mechanic was here for an hour and only charged $35.00.
Very happy.

Thanks for all your help guys!!
