Nissan Trials 06

What a w/end. Thanks to Miss Wendy and her crew at the Nissan Patrol club for a well run event.
I must say the rule changes were grately appreciated and i think I say that from most competitors. The fact that navi's could be out of the vehicles was good and the clarification of how the bunting can be broken (in certain circumstances) by your vehicle was also another good rule change..... Good to see some flexibilty from the organisers.
Disappointing to have the rain take the edge off the event but throughout Sydney its well needed. Sad to see that there was a major injury, lets forget about how, who and why. Lets hope the guy in question has a quick recovery.
I've uploaded some photos to our club webpage. http://www.wellsprung.org.au/gallery/album23
Congrats to all the winners.

The que jumping will always be a problem. We tried the number thing but there would be hold ups on one event and they would be pushed onto the next one to keep things moving. People break things and can't get back in line. Its hard. With the running order we consider this the fairest. Some of the events get easier, some get harder. It wouldn't be fair the last club all scoring bad cause the event got very difficult later on in the day. As it is the first car from each team will go to event #1, the second cars to #2 etc.

Does anyone know who owns what I think was the really old Patrol maybe? It was a lime/yellow colour with a tube rear and an awesome sounding V8. I'm curious as to the motor type and the exhaust set up... Same for the blue cut GQ with an exo (i think it was) sounded hypo....
I'm hoping to get a second exhaust (is flanged) for comps to help unleash the supercar sound the 1UZ puts out..... for the crowds pleasure
btw How quite is your lux Guts! Especially at idle etc. Mine would be twice as loud, but still smooth sounding (saw you in stage 4 I think it was)

I haven't been through all the footage yet, but I'm pretty sure we got a good view of the handstand! I'll be putting stage 2 onto the DVD, even though it didn't count for the results, because there was some great driving in there. I'll also be giving Careflight a good plug.-Nemesis- wrote:Thanks for the clarification Jamie....
On another note; Will anything from stage 2 make the DVD? Was hoping you guys caught the hand stand by the shorty i was in
They did have a landline from the property (which was used for the initial call for the Ambulance) The PA call for the sat phone was just to simplify things a little for communication between the incident site and the responding emergency services, rather than relaying back via radio to the landline. I did actually have a satphone there, but (as Murphy's law would have it) hadn't got around to transferring my SIM card into it for the weekend, so it could only make calls to 000 rather than direct to the helicopter despatcher, which is what was wanted. In the end, a combination of Land-line for the initial call, then CDMA for direct to helicopter comms, then sat phone from the paramedic back to Sydney Ambo HQ did the job.Hekta wrote:What beats me is why the organisers had to call over the PA system for someone with a sat phone to come and make a call. Wouldn't you have one incase of emergency in a known 'no mobile service' area ?
The Nissan club actually did quite well considering it's a rare event to have such a severe problem. They had a land line ready, gave good directions to the road Ambulance, and stationed vehicles on the Putty road 5km in either direction to guide the Ambo to the site. They also had a GPS there to give an exact location direct to the helicopter.

Thanks to the generosity of all those who made a donation to CareFlight at the Nissan Trials, they will be receiving a healthy cheque in the next few days. We did not count the money up there, because there was a lot of coin, but there was also a lot of folding stuff too. I almost did a shoulder lifting the bucket though, so the number should e impressive!AustImages wrote:I'll also be giving Careflight a good plug.
The actual amount raised will be posted here and on the Nissan Club's website http://www.nissanpatrolclub.org once the count is done.
I'll get the results up onto the website as soon as I can.

I know who you're talking about too. There's two cars from the same club who follow each other instead of going to different events like they're supposed to. I've noticed it in previous years aswell.CruiserCruising wrote: I did however notice there was a pair who in the same club no matter were they were always followed each other on the same events.

Ahhh you maybe talking about the Cinderella Rangies Wild Violet and Red Bitch .... They were driving for seperate clubs, Brindabella and Southern Tablelands who were following each other in the running order if you look through your souvenir magazineHekta wrote:I know who you're talking about too. IMHO I don't know why you don't have the clubs run togther as a group - that would make the queue jumping much less of a problem and IMHO would make it better & easier for the club supporter to follow the action.Miss Wendy wrote:The que jumping will always be a problem. Yes the track change - but given the track rotations and if the club running order was initially random then it's an even chance for everyone.
Plus it still allows those that want to watch an individual event to do so......
Just a suggestion (again).

The vehicle is an old Toyota FJ55. It belongs to Eddie Signorini and drives for Brindabella Ranges. At around 5g its at 103db
Remember it basicly only has the same exhaust I used to run on my turboed 2.8. Well same muffler but new pipe lol. This is the one thing that I still need to finish off.
Whats the big deal with running out of order? Personaly I think the order should fit for the first stage each day. After that if you`re slow at getting to the next stage then to bad to you. Think of the guys that drive 4+ hours (8hrs for myself) to get there, makes for a late night home if they have to wait rather then be organised and get threw the stages quickly.
Hey guys, I know the gentleman that got fit by the tree fairly well. Hes recovering well in hospital with broken right foot and a compressed disc in his back and one splitting headache.
We where wondering, was there anyone there at the trials had a video running at the time of the accident. Would please let me know.
Thanks
Mick

On the topic of the line jumping/running order. I was first to run both days. On the sunday I had the wombat holes first then I headed over to have a look at the mud and decided against doing it so I headed over to my next stage and ended up behind another car from my club for the rest of the day. I felt it was unnecessary for me to line up for an event I wasn't going to do. Seemed like the logical thing to do to me.

I am obviously deeply sorry to the bloke who was hurt as thats not a laughing matter... I hope he has a quick recovery.
I was merely trying to put a little light onto a sad subject by by taking the focus off the poor guy that hit that tree.... and taking the piss out on myself in the hopes of making the poor bloke feel abit better....
obviously ive stepped on some toes so i apologise for my comments.

So this isn't the 1st time this has happened yet no further instructions were given on what to do if we were not going to drive an event, even though this has happened before? What should have I done then? Trev was with me and he didn't think it was a bad idea to jump onto the next event seeing as we weren't going to drive it.Miss Wendy wrote:And this is exactly how things get out of order. I wasn't just pleasing myself by just going to which event I felt like next, I went to my next scheduled event that I was driving. But, I know there was some people just coming in near the front of the line or jumping into any gap, and then driving the event.
I assume if you were to have a breakage, you have to go to camp etc. and then come back for the next event that you go to the end of the line and lineup when you are ready to drive it. And if you were to lose your place in this time (which is very likely) then where you are on the end of the line is your new place now. I think the same would happen in the case like I described earlier. I wasn't going to drive an event so I went on to my next event. Right?
Mark.
The Chopper landed at the banked track near the top of the Wombat Holes event. The Doctor and paramedic on board were then driven around to where the accident occured. Normal procedure is to transport the patient by road ambo to the chopper, but as the 2WD ambo could not get down there and the ride would have been a bit bumpy, the ambos decided to winch him out.markil wrote:They winched old mate outDX80 wrote:Just out of curiosity, did the chopper land in the cleared area up the top near the camp area or did it winch old mate out?
Dave.
That's a ride no-one would want to take (but it give us an idea for getting busted cars off tracks quicker in the future )

the way i see it is, if you enter as a team, all members of that team should at least attempt every event, if you dont drive the mud you are letting your team down, dont be a soft rooster, if you are going to enter, have a go at all events and help get your teams overall score up. if you have a problem with driving in mud dont enter at all, you are just letting your TEAM MATES DOWN IF YOU DONT DRIVE EVERY EVENT.So this isn't the 1st time this has happened yet no further instructions were given on what to do if we were not going to drive an event, even though this has happened before?
yes my alternator is cactus, but i had a go and had fun, i hate mud too, but i reckon its a team event and everyone should try and get the max ammount of points for their club team, just my 2 bobs worth [/quote]

i personally agree with madmac. i was in the flamed zuk, and we had 2 brakages. both on our first events of both days. 1st day we did a rear drive shaft and had to fix that before going to our next event.
and on the 2nd day on the logs we snapped a axle. we drove back to camp and fixed that. to get back into the event for our team. both times we felt like throwing in the towel. but for our club. as its our cliubs only 2nd comp we wanted to get our clubs name out there. so we fixed the bloody thing in the rain ( our club had no reserve).
As for line jumping we really had no chance of getting back into line after repares.
