Somebody in russia just swapped his diesel with manual 4.875 gears for set of 5.285 diffs. Rear on is easy as we all know that. He actuall got one with factory locker. But herein is the mystery he was able to find second hand front diff with 5.285 from some other allegedly P2 which indeed accepts larger 29mm axle shafts. He actually got 2 of them and first one was as we know it small diff which didn't work but second one accepted his original 29mm shafts But second worked. Unfortunately shop doesn't seem to be able to supply details of donor vehicle.

Hi Alex, I double checked the part no's and both the numbers you listed are for 5.285 C&P for Gen 2 high pinion 7.5" (small diff).
We got these in Oz in our Gen 2 2.5 TDI and they except the larger axle shafts (28.5mm). This will be the same front diff that is in US spec Gen 2 3.0 V6 auto's and the reason the front ARB locker won't fit (it will only fit 8" low & high pinion Mitsu front diffs).
We researched for 2 years through Mitsu part no's are there isn't a 5.285 for the larger 8" high pinion Gen 2 front diff.

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
Strange. I always thought that 28 spline shaft was as sign of larger 8" ring gear and 25 spline 7.5" correspondingly. At least you get this impression from ARB catalog.

i heard you could get the 5.29 and even lower out of mitsubishi canter trucks to use in monteros with the larger differentials. lordtrunks from knows a bit more about this he could probably tell you where to start looking for gears
