What wattage are the globes, and does the fuse power one or both lights (or any others as well for that matter). Did the fuse actually blow or did the plastic around it simply melt?
100 watts should draw 8 amps or so each, so 2 of them would be well within the limits of a 30 amp fuse. 140 watt globes would draw about 12 amps and still be OK for 2 lights.
Don't use an inline glass fuse (3AG type, typically sold in Kmart, etc) as they are prone to heating and melting the surrounding plastic under any more than about 5 amp continuous load.
Use/change to an inline blade type fuse.
There is a possibility of a short circuit somewhere in the +12V power circuit

Get yourself one of the little 4 or 8 fuse blocks mounted up on the firewall to allow for any other things you may want to fuse directly off the battery (UHF radio, auxillary work lamp, fridge, etc) and have a bit of a tidy up of the existing birdcage on your +ve terminal too.crack wrote:yeh ive switched them off and pulled the fuse out just incase. had a little fire start in my car from crappy wiring by a previous owner.
might just pull it all out and rewire the spotlightsand try a 30amp fuse again.
cheers
