long trips?

Post by suzuki newby »

Me and a friend are doing our annual trip to weipa in a few days and he has decided to take his sierra (it has the usual 2''+2'' lift and 30s) i told him he was crazy as it quite a long may from were we are in hervey bay but he reckons other people must have done similar trips.

So has anyone taken there sierra on any long trips, how was it, would you do it again?

I did Sydney-Cape York-Darwin-Alice-Adelaide-Melbourne and home over a one month period. Would I do it again? For sure! In a Sierra? Maybe not, but i must cofess, if you take your time, it is not too bad.

I think it was around 13 hours, Melbourne to Broken Hill.

Which was in a Sierra Ute on 31s no gearing change carrying 4 spare tyres, all my camping gear plus about 60 litres of water and I'm 6'4". Surprisingly it wasn't a bad drive :D

Flat towed a Mitsushithouse Stigma (owner crashed it into a tree coming out of Sunset Country) from Mildura to Melbourne once. 3 people in the Zook, plus all my gear and one in the Stigma.... about 12 hours at night.

Ive done a couple of fairly bigish trips - 1000-1200km's over 3 days with the crap plastic fixed back bucket seats with no padding - great for the back (at least you know it will be impossible to fall asleep)

I dont go away for much longer as i simply don't have the room nor comfort for all supplies etc.

i've taken several long trips including a brisbane - newcastle - canberra - dubbo - brisbane round trip. Though keep in mind it was in a 4 door vitara with all the trimmings which is a limo compared to the seira

Hi Guys,

I just finished a near 6000K trip in a "96 Coilly zook with 5x3 trailer from Perth WA to the Gold Coast QLD via Sydney and Canberra. I sat on around 90-100km with a bit of inaccuracy from the 31's. She went well. Didnt miss a beat. I camped the whole way with the missus and took our time over three weeks. I recommend it to anyone. It wasnt the most comfortable at times but a gr8 experience.

I have also driven with it stock from Darwin to Perth a few years ago with my brother. before the mods.

we had a 95 wt.
there were 3 of us and a 6x4 box trailer fully loaded. we went from the sunshine coast qld to sydney to milbrodale for tt only stopping for fuel.

on the way back from tt we went to overkill and picked up a vitara body/chassis wacked it on the trailer and towed it home. the zook still done 100ks and a strait drive home to the sunny coast. no problems. but i do reccommend upgrading the seats.
