T700vsT350 opinions ideas

hi all im considering putting an auto behind my 253 and im not sure which. any pros cons with the above two and anyone know where i can get a good one in perth also what adaptor suppliers do you recommend cheers shaun

Im going with a T4oo as the auto joint building my auto ( Kewish auto's) told me they wouldnt give me anything else as I would be back in a week.
As for Adaptors, Ring Marks Adaptors in Melb, tell them Cheezy sent you for a good deal. :D

i think you will find the 700 is too long and not strong enough like mark said, althou it does have a 4sp over drive.

I had a t350 behind my 253 and then behind my 5.0lt. Did not like it much. Lots of revs, really bad fuel consumption and no engine braking (4.88 ratio's with 35"). So I went with a 5 speed in my current 4runner. This is much better.
If you are set on an auto and it is not a trail only rig then I would go for the t700. I would try get an adapter that uses a 4-speed type transfer case (shifter in the t/case). This will mean the adapter is much shorter, but you will need to change the transfer case you have. You will make sure that the transmission is also beefed up and running a external cooler.

Surely you could fit a t700 in a runner?? I mean in something like a CJ5 it's a bloody tight fit, but it's on about 1½" longer than the t350, o/drive and PLENTY of upgrade options....IMHO it would be a no brainer decision....

The reason why I would go for a shorter adapter is so that if you go dual t/cases it wil not be a problem.

turbo 350 good how you going to bolt it behind your 253 adpter plate or redrill the block 700 good but bad points are weight length and cost to rebuild i can get a 350 that will handle 400hp for 1000$ a 700 will cost nearly 3 times that for the same hp

Yea it is expensive, but you get a lower first gear and an over drive!!

8runner, if you need an adapter for a 253 to a t350 bolt pattern I have one.

i could be wrong but isnt a t700 about 7 inch longer than a 350, a 400 and 700 are the same length right?

so you would need a 350 with the rear removed and the adaptor to run dualcase with out cutting the horse collar?

Without a DOUBT,go the TH700R4, Behind a 253, 308, 307, 327 they are all you need standard. If you putem behind a 350,400,454 you need to install the go fast bits for performance and longelivity.

It is strong ( although not as strong as a 400), and it has a 4th gear!!

as for length, i danno, but its a piss easy fit in a lux.

I'd go a TH400 if I were you. I had one in my Nissan G60 behind a reasonably 'warm' 308 (cam/exhaust/extractors/carb), and I used to be able to stick it in neutral, hit the loud pedal till the needle bapped 5g's, put it back into drive, no worries. Spoke to an auto trans place near me (the guy used to race Funny Cars), and he reckons TH400 is the only way to go if you're gonna be giving it a bit of stick. TH700 is good with the overdrive, but for the same size box, i'd rather extra strength personally.

someone i know V6 and V8 commodors in about 91, they had a stretch of wide quiet PRIVATE road they used to play on, Some of the antics were flying along at about 100clicks, putting the foot flat down on the load pedal and putting the car in reverse.

Good fun, no bangs or crunches... an interesting spectacle and Ride.
