Good afternoon, I am a new member of this forum. I am considering the wisdom of purchasing my first Disco and have been discouraged by descriptions of the unreliability of them. I am thinking of something late 90s in the TDi range preferably with less than 100K on the clock. I don't want to use it for serious offroading but would like to be able to travel into the backcountry in some comfort and to get back again. I am not mechanical but am moderately practical. Can anyone please provide me with insight into what sort of trouble I might experience with a vehicle of this type.
Thanks,
Rob

later tdi's - mid 96 on, are fairly reliable if they have a good service history. Get it inspected by a landrover mechanic before you purchase if you aren't very mechanically minded. if its an auto, i would upgrade the cooler, as they do get warm when towing somthing heavy. get the cambelt changed every 80-100,000 kms and keep anticorosion fluid in the radiator (tdis have mild steel welsh plugs). For what you say you want to do, get a disco and service it andyou will have a friend for life.
