Black under body paint/deadner? Also how to fix rust?
hi guys
My car has a fair bit of paint missing from under it and i have a air spary gun and i'm after what paint should i buy from supercheap or somewere to spray under my car and in the wheel archs to stop any surface rust and try stop and rust devloping from going up the beach.
It's Ford Maverick 1988
I saw that deadner shit at supercheap but it looked shit then i thought i might use that black kill rust shit and spray it nice and thick under there.
Cheers
Rick.
I thought i may aswell ask both question in the same thread..
I have bits of rust in spots in my car and woundering whats the best way to fix so it doesn't spread any further..
I will rub it back with steel brush then i was thinking some rust converter then give it good thick coat of black paint.
What do u suggest?
Cheers

Proper way to fix up rust is to simply cut out the section, the make up another section to match the old one then weld it in, you'll need to under coat and paint etc.
Or get another panel then replace.
If it's surface rust, then sand it away then undercoat/paint etc.
depends on where it is and what the deal is.
Some people will say to bondo it etc but that doesn't get rid of the problem.

I bought a container of the brush on under body deadener from SuperCheat and thinned it out with Turps, so it could be sprayed through a gun. I then went nuts on my Zuk and sprayed everything, including sealing up some patchs of rust with it (cut out and plated of course). You can build it up in layers to whatever thickness you want. I bought one of the throw away body suits too so I didn't get covered in crap. The other option is chassis black but I reckon the body deadener is better.
I assume you mean surface rust.......if so use a wire wheel to clean it off. now you can either use the body deadner which is just a thinned out coating of tar......or you can use chassis black. Sound deadner not mater what brand will be effected by degreaser if you use it under the car. Chassis black want be effect but need the underside to be a lot cleaner prior to application.
For best result was under the car with ct18 truck was before you start.
Sound deadner will cover and hold to almost anything but doesn't like degreaser.
chassis black is harder wearing but need a cleaner surface to stick properly.
I used sound deadner under my zook cause it both protects from rust and with a few coats make things a little quiter in the car.....
you choice.....either way allow a day or two and buy some good eye protection for when your lying under there.

one thing i do is put wire wheel in the grinder and go nuts, then use some rust kill (that acid stuff in a bottle)(i use the vht stuff ) then wash and prep for paint, and you could also use stone gaurd (most stone gaurds are water base so you must paint the area first) and if you spay body deadner inside under carpet, spay some paint over that as it sticks to your carpet. cheers scott
mq shorty, black, rust free!!, quarter chop, F&R tube bars and sliders, q78's or 33'' stt's, 4.88's with lsd waiting to be thrown in.. :D http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9540

I did the same thing.. under the guards (removed them to paint), and under the inner guards, as well as behind the headlight surround panel, and as far under the body as I could get without lying in the dirt and having black stuff drip on me. Also going to do inside the doors, but using the spray on stuff with lanolin (to stop the smell). should make it nice and rust free for a little while.to_easy wrote:i did mine yesterday with under body deadener under the guards and underneath with a paint brush that way u can put it on as thick as you wont. it going to get another coat tomorrow .plus it cut down the noise
The best way is to buy a big tin of it, and a few brushes.. and con a mate or two to come over and lend a hand and you should have it done in no time!

Inside the doors I would use fish oil first and then coat all the edges in cavity wax. The cavity wax dries hard and locks the fish oil in not allowing water to collect in the seems and start to rust.....
This is what I do to my car's. When you treat it the smell is quite strong for a week or two but dies off after that.
If you want you can then spray sound deadner over that a couple weeks later.........just make sure the water channels don't get to bloced ot restricted as you will collect water......

hey all,
i used the sepatone body deadned / rust proofing and i brought a sepatone body deadner spray gun,
(the spray gun was 24 bucks but worth it)
its soo much better than trying to brush it on and you can spray it mega thick just takes a while to dry.
i have been down to car lovers a few times and high pressure washed it and haven't been able to get any of it to come off.
i only brought the 1l bottle as it fits the spray gun perfectly and i didn't wanna buy the 4l tin if it was crap.
i have done my front guards in it and i recon this stuff is execlent and i am
going to do my whole underbody and chassi in it.
