can injected diesels over fuel, stupid question maybe?

Post by Bingham »

can injected diesels over fuel.

am still trying to peice together the heating issues of the big 3L,,,,

my eg,, on a long hill where your running out of steam and say could back to 3/4 gas/pedal and see no drop apart from obvious as opposed to leaving pedal on floor boards :!:

eg tooowoombbah range can hold 3/4 and do say 85/90 or on floor boards and doing much the same...........
drive auto like this to make it drop back or to ensure it holds gears

facts pls will an injected motor overfuel?

asked a few guru's and no defined answer?

Um, all diesels are injected. And yes, they can overfuel.

Yep they can. Either a fault in the mechanicals, or an electronic fault can cause this, or something as simple as partially blocked air filter could also be resposible.

Over fueling a diesel will make more power if a bit more fuel is added, ranging to loss of power and (lots) black smoke if getting seriously to much fuel. Mechanical or electronic injected, end result is still the same, just differant causes for the fault.

First of all, we need to know what vehicle you are talking about. There are 2 ways of ovefueling, someone has had a fiddle, or there is a restriction in the inlet or exhaust system, either way can cause egt's to get higher than normal, just one will lack power.

Let us know.

Have you had a check engine light come on?

By putting your foot fully to the floor up a hill, you are telling the fuel system to go harder/faster, however the engine doesnt have enough power to do so, so in this situation the ecu would control fueling a little more accurately than a mechanical system would and not completely overfuel the engine.

It is better to let your foot of a little especially if you are gaining any speed, if anything it may keep egt's down a frag.

Did you see any black smoke coming out the exhaust?

Cheers

Ive never heard of too much fuel causing an engine to overheat. It would be more likely to be running lean as this will cause an engine to overheat.

Diesels work the opposite to petrols Tony, a rich mixture causes more heat to be produced.

no black smoke............. nissan pulled radiator out and got checked apparantly had partial blockages-> normally a result of not changing coolant and to quality coolant which it has had so not sure what story was..

they suggest it could have been a a combination of a viscous fan working at about 90% and partial blockage in radiator......

i tried my best to blow her sky high on way home yest with trailer and bike on for added effect up 3 long hils but no success..........

the next step was ripping the head off but they suggest they have not had any such issues with the 04 or nearby models.........

and some good blokes up there at nissan nambour for warranty work.....

up beach fri will soon tell a story
