gearbox and transfer help

Post by --sinner-- »

well, the front diff, transfer case, gearbox, and front driveshaft have all carked it in my 84 model diesel 4runner. i know a bloke whos selling a 1st gen 4runner for spares, but its a petrol model. my question is this, will the petty box's and diff go straight into my diesel? or will i need to hunt around for a diesel one...

cheers all.

They are both have the G52 gearbox you will need to change the bellhousing to fit it onto your diesel
The transfer cases are the same other than the gearing for the speedo drive
Your diesel has 4.556 ratio diffs the petrol has 4.875 ratio diffs
You could use the 4.875 diffs if you have 31" or 33" tyres

You must keep front and back the same ratio. Not important what the ratio is, just the same front and back. On the same thought, you have to run the same size tyres on all 4 wheels.

From memory the bellhousing should be about 8 bolts to change it over
