Supercharged Lux

Post by LuxyBoy »

Mate has a '03 model petrol Lux and is looking at Supercharging it. He has been told it will double  the kilawatts (spelling?)
Quoted $5000 to do it

Has anyone done this :?: What did you think :?:
Is doubling the output correct :?:
Pros/Cons :?:
He only uses it for road and beach work, no rock or mud
Kind Regards,
Brad

If its the 3.4 you can almost double the power from standard to about 200Kw. However the price seems cheap as to get the extra power you need to add an extra injector among other things. If its the 2.7 you wont get much over 150Kw out of supercharging it. Dont know a great deal about the other motor options so cannot comment.

There are a few running around and if done properly seems relatively trouble free.

TRD does a bolt on s-charger for the 5vzfe - try them for output specs.

The yanks commonly use this engine/charger setup as apparently there are nil reliability issues with it for some good h.p.

Like booflux says, the price looks low - unless someones going to bolt on a charger from a 1.8l corolla or something which are cheaper to source, but are never going to push 200 k.w.

I've got that engine and have looked at the mods but they are looking more like $8-9k to go the trd way whic I can't afford. My mechanic reckons that the torque will go though the roof with the shorter intake on the lux, but if it's k.w. you're chasing you'll need the longer prado intakes as well, and a body lift to fit it.

If I'm wrong and he can get it done cheap - P.M. me and we'll get a group booking going!!!!!!

for the price the TRD bloer will cost you, the extra injector, upgraded EFI management system, upgraded clutch plus labour, you'd probably be better off going the 4 litre Lexus V8 conversion option and it's probably cost ya just under the price of the blowe setup and be more off a turn on in the process with the same amount of torque output.

supercharged lux

I fitted a TRD supercharger to my 3.4l. Heaps more low down, which is what I was after, and a awesome thing topend. Surprisingly it was even better on fuel(upto extra 50k per tank on the highway). I sourced one on Ebay from the states, got a second hand unused one for $1500 aussie landed here. Fitment was a no drama, about 5 hours with a fair bit of bullshit flying around at the same time. Only hassle is the pinging at high gear/low revs. Have spoken to URD in the states about another $1000 US to fix this problem. But over all she is the grouse.
