New front linkage

New front linkage
Hey people I spoke with Bill @ Offroad rover and he gave me an idea that i like. It involves adding a new upper link to the centre of the front diff.
Apparently some people including Bill himself have done this with great results. So heres my littel description.
First of all you need to make up a mount slightly to the passenger side of the diff and line it back and make up a mount on your crossmember (it has to be to the passenger side a fair bit to clear the engine) basically the same design as the rear link only on the top of the front diff to the crossmember.
Secondly you take your standard frton radious arms and cutt out the front bush housing so they only link to the rear bush on the diff (you see the two front radius arms hold the bottom and the third added arm hold the top) you then adjust the new upper arm (using washers) to correct castor.
Bill said he has a mount that doesnt involve welding to the diff It hold sonto the diff buy 7 or 8 bolts (and is completely removable later).
SO enough yabbering what do you people think?????? Do you knwo of anyone that manufacture somthing along these lines??? Anyone else done this???

Is this the same thing as the SG three link front? If it is, you'll get a LOT of flex, BUT, its not stable and may fold as a lot of people know and have seen.
The thing that i HATE about the front Rover set-up is that it limits articulation, and at the same time, the thing i LOVE about it is it is as sturdy as hell. After talking to a physicist that explained to me the dymanic forces a front axle is faced with, I simply accept the front set-up that Rover engineers pioneered (along with the Ford Bronco in the late '60s). I prefer having to loose 2-3" of travel than to have my front axle fold under hard breaking or a jump and land on my chassis. "Lawn Chair" was what people called it.

The way it is described it has nothig to do with the SG three link setup.
And the bit about "people" calling the SG 3 link a lawn chair is only to do with some guy on disco web. It was only one of the prototypes that failed and since then there have been nothing but great reports on the SG 3 link.
I think that the biggest problem with people setting up a three link in this way (not the SG one but the one described here) is that the geometry isnt symetric and so will cause the axle to steer when the brakes are applied and so produces funny on road handling. This is why the SG 3 link has been such a successful product cause it works well both on and off road.
In either case the lawn chair effect isnt an issue IMO.

Is it Worth it??
The SG 3 link setup claims "there is a 25% increase in front wheel articulation on a stock Land Rover or OME/ Stage I lift or a 33% increase in front wheel articulation on Stage II and Stage III SAFARI GARD Suspension systems." qouted from their web page
Now If it only gains you 25% wouldn't cranking stock arms running 2" lift and retaining the springs gain the same amount?
Tell me if I'm way off

The SG 3 link gets around the radius arm bushing bind problem and you can basically get as much travel as you shocks will allow. So I think that the quoted 25% increads is only to do with the shock/spring combo that they provide with that kit.
Ive seen a rig running 16in coilovers on the SG3 link so they get more than 100% increase over stock.
Cranking stock arms and more lift wont get you any more articulation cause you are still limited by the bushing binding problem.
