well, lucky me got defected in qld with a body lift a little higher than legal, thing is i bought the car in nsw, got it up here, then they passed me on a safety cert?? how was i to know it wasnt legal if they passed me...sigh.

i have no idea on how much it would cost to lower it again...if anyone could give me a general idea it would be great...
its all a little depressing seeing i was just about to go out and purchase a new stocker. i could do that, but then cant afford to fix the current truck. and with uni fees for next year, im super strapped for cash.

can i sell a defected car? lol i mean....it would be legal in other states still right? would the buyer need to still get rid of the defect before rego'ing in say...nsw? how liable am i?

its either lower it by removing the body lift (wont happen if its gonna cost too much) or just get rid of it and still buy the disco ive wanted for the last year. arghhhh

please help lol

That sucks dude. What car is it and what size bodylift do you have? Im sure you can get a mod plate for upto 2"BL in queensland. You will have to wait to a few QLD guys read this. To remove a body lift isnt hard at all. I took my 3"BL out of my MK with the help oy my dad, hoghlift jack and a length of timber.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

Why don't you just rip out the body lift yourself, and either trim to make legal or throw over your shoulder ?

Costs nothing....

anyone be able to give me step by step instructions on it? i seriously have no clue on how to rip it out...
its currently 70mm
argh, all for 20 bloody mm im going through all this hassle
there were other things like mudflaps and flares, but thats done, some rubber from clark rubber and bobs your uncle.

either way i still wanted to sell the car...it happened the week i was going to advertise it too :(

A: rip the body lift out (should be hard to do by yourself-much easier than putting it in) and get it inspected like this

OR

B: apply for a mod approval and get it checked of when you do the QT inspection anyway (presume that would be a major and inspection is required?)

I got done for the same thing in January and ripped my body lift out myself and went throught full inspection. All I can say is make sure everything on the defect list is done by the inspection date and fix anything else that may not pass...don't be mistaken-they are very thorough-trust me

on the defect notice its a major, but he has only ticked the box saying, provide vehicle for a safety cert at a approved station, i asked him about this and he said it has to be just any ol safety cert place, and i can mail the stuff in.
the box which says provide vehicle for further inspection of the defects, has not been checked.
but in the approval for modification letter it says it must be inspected?


any chance i can get away with just getting a safety cert, and mailing in the safety cert and the defect notice, with the self declaration signed and the approved inspection station part filled out, thats all he said i had to fill out, and just not send in the approval for modification letter, after all, im meant to keep that arnt i??

seriously i just want to sell the thing...if i take it in to qld transport, they will without a doubt find more things (as they do) and ive poured enough time and money into this thing, i want it goneeeee. is it possible to sell it as is?

You can sell it unregistered as is and it becomes someone elses problem.

You cannot sell a registered vehicle in QLD without a safety certificate. You know it is not "legally safe" as the body lift to high, so even if you managed to get a safety certificate from some goose and sold the vehicle without informing the buyer of the defect, I imagine you could be legally liable if something went wrong.....
Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and this is only my thoughts - I would research this if it is what you really want to do.

yeah, i figured it would have to be unregistered and sold as is....anyone know if the new buyer would have to still sort out the same defect notice? would i need to pass the notice on? or if i just have it unregistered would it get rid of the defect notice, and the new buyer would just need a safety cert for it??, whether they be in qld, vic, nsw?

No he wouldn't.
But I expect the car details would be red flagged in their system somehow? and trigger a query if details came up on the system?
it would need to be inspected when it gets re-regoed to confirm some details; ie engine number, bla,bla,bla.
this inspection could catch this?
Although I knew of one guy once who got a cruiser ute regoed on 35 inch
muds! took it up late ish on friday arvo :D :D :D

I pretty sure if you unregister the car the defect will be removed but don't quote me on this. Obviously then you would get less money for the car and even if a dodgy safety cert was done it still has to be re-registered by QT but that often isnt that hard to pass. Personally i think your best bet for least money spent and most money received for sale is rip out the lift yourself, take off the sliders and find a standard rear bar to put back on-should be able to find one cheap. Then get your safety cert to clear the defect and sell the car. Simple, costs you a few hours work and you get heaps more money on the point of sale.

if it says on the defect that it doesnt have to be brought in then get a safety cert. lots of places out there wont know.... send it in and hope you dont get done again or your up shit creek. unrego it and defect is cancelled.

Even if it was 50mm... it would still be illegal until QLD transport inspected the vehicle, you paid for engineering and they approved it which of course they can still knock it back on no matter what since you need pre approval for body lift...

Regardless the NSW engineering it's still illegal.

Swapping to 50mm shouldnt be too hard. You're looking at $10 per block probably cut to size and some work with some big jacks. Anyone with a flat surface, a trolley jack and a clue can fit a bodylift.

Because you're only changing the height 20mm from where it is now probably wont need anything modified to do it unless they did a poor job and the tolerances are too close now.


Safer bet is to remove it altogether but depending on other mods done to accomodate the lift that may not be easy or possible.
