My TD4.2 GQ is running too cool I have suspected this for a while and replaced the genuine thermostat when I bought it because it was slightly stuck open with another genuine which gave me a steady cruising temperature on the guage at least.
Just today I hooked up a temperature guage and the engine will not reach above 68deg C (aircon, highway) and is happy to sit on 65deg C with aircon at 29 deg ambiant (around town), the guage is accurate I checked.
Damn crap genuine thermostat!!!
What temeperature should be my rock bottom on the guage when at operating temp?? and anyone know what damage running this cool would do over time to a diesel??
look forward to any replys, think I better fix this.
cheers fnq

Gee i wish i had your problem!!
What temp is the thermostat?
You could always cover a small section of the rad and see what happens.
Im guessing the right running temp will be very similar to the thermostat opening temp. Maybe you have a cold one.
How did u get yours to run so low???? What did u use to test the guage?

GQII Patrol YAY!!
Hi Jimbo, the car has 212k on it and everything engine/cooling is original, just lucky I guess, it was running colder again with the last thermostat!!!!
Don't know what all you GQ fella's talk about when you say overheat
The thermostat is the genuine Nissan 86deg or 80 something I forget, it must be popping early.
Yes tested the guage with boiling water and my body temp (by mouth not by....) also the ambiant temp it all checks out with other thermometers here.
Although it is the bolt to metal type so I am am about to change it's position and see what I get.
cheers fnq

Yesi'm not doubting that the guage is accurate but i cant see it giving u an accurate reading of the actual water temp. Maybe you could somehow feed the temp sensor into the rad hose and seal it up.
In another post u said your temp got to 3/4. Has it done this again?

No never but that was extra ordinary circumstances, really flogging the old girl flat stick for hours towing in 35deg heat and aircon, when I would back down to 4th and 105kph saw around half + a needle on the nissan gauge.
cheers fnq
