Questions on Dual Battery Isolator Solenoid

Post by Seafarer »

Hi All,

Pretty much got all the bits and pieces (except battery tray) to install a dual battery system on the GU Patrol.

Picking on the brains of forum members I have 2 questions:

1) Where is the ignition area/point of the Patrol to connect to? A picture showing where would be much appreciated.

2) First picture is a diagram from the seller but will wiring it up as per second picture be alright too?

3) What gauge wire should I use for wiring up positive and negative wires from Auxiliary Battery to vehicle interior?

Will also vouch for the redarc. Two years now and no probs.

x3. had for over 2 years, mud, water, dust and no problems.

Has nice features like being able to wire a switch in the cabin to bridge the batteries for easy jump starting / extra grunt when required. (you can also add a remote monitor light in the cabin for peace of mind ;) )

Thanks fellas.

If someone can post a pic of where is this "ignition wire" they connect the isolator up to in the engine bay, it would be much appreciated.

I rang the igintion wire through to ignition on steering column. Fairly easy to poke through that big factory grommet next to brake booster. Can't remember what colour wire, but if you have a multi-meter it's easy enough to work out.

Hope this helps.

Another wiring option would be to pick off the wire from the oil pressure SWITCH and feed that into the BASE pin, via a 10kOhm Resistor, of an NPN transistor. Connect the COLLECTOR to one side of the solenoid coil, and the EMMITTER to EARTH. Connect the other solenoid coil to positive/igintion wire. This way the batteries are only in parrallel once the engine is running.

cheers
