Electronic distributor? Snorkel? Extractors? Worth doing?
Electronic distributor? Snorkel? Extractors? Worth doing?
Was wondering if anyone knows or if they've changed to electronic ignition/distributor on the TB42 running dual fuel. (mainly LPG)
Also heard that forced air snorkels like the safari snorkels aren't good for motors running gas? Is this true?
And how much do extractors REALLY make a difference?
As you can tell I'm looking for a bit more power without going overboard (forced induction = $$$) I got a little scared when I tried to overtake a truck while running on my 33" M/T's and had no acceleration.
Or if anyone else has other ideas...go ahead!
cheers

ok can't comment on a snorkle for the LPG with mine, but it made a diff on my mates 4.5L GU, it allowed it to get more air into the system and since the LPG setup requires air flow for it to enter the engine it does help
As for the elect dizzy i did the Crane Fireball Dizzy conversion that has the optical sensor and rotor disc. Some people don't like them but mine worked a treat.
Mine used to go through points like there was no tomorrow, every 5000K's i'd need a new set. After i changed over to the Elect setup i never had a single backfire through the carby, the economy increased and i could run a larger gap at the plug.
Extractors and a 2.5" system also made my car work better, better economy was a result, was getting 550-600K's out of a 100L tank of LPG

16-18l/100km on lpg is really good going... be happy if I get close to that.MyGQ wrote:ok can't comment on a snorkle for the LPG with mine, but it made a diff on my mates 4.5L GU, it allowed it to get more air into the system and since the LPG setup requires air flow for it to enter the engine it does help

Sweet thanks MyGQ. Petronix Ignitor sounds like the go then. I'm getting 450kms off a 100L tank of LPG at the moment so I'll be stoked to get another 100kms! Do you remember what the crane fireball cost ya?
thanks for the link too blkmav

do yourself a favour and steer well clear from crane fireball crap. phiranna or petronix is the go definately. had nothing but problems with the crane set up.
extractors and exhaust will be good for you..2 1/2 inch with a free flow exhaust will benifit u greatly.
snorkel set up will not alter your performance as such.. but will make u swim deeper so will only be a good thing.. spin your intake around so u dont force feed your lpg set up you will have no dramas.
i have modded ignition, extractors exhaust snorkel etc etc etc and my tb42 makes good power and uses about 400kms to 85l of gas. auto with 37mtrs so im happy with that

snorkel woes with lpg
If you are running a snorkel with lpg ,and you have the problem of too much air being forced in and causing it too stall ???
Run a balance pipe from the convertor to the air filter box and that will fix it ,,
cheers Rick

Yeah, Ive been wanting to fit a Petronix Ignition for a while, but cant find anybody that would or knows how to fit the bastard here in Sydney.viperguy wrote:do yourself a favour and steer well clear from crane fireball crap. phiranna or petronix is the go definately. had nothing but problems with the crane set up.

I usually do things myself but I simply dont know how to do this one, with the grinding of the shaft and all.
Ive got the same exhaust set up and its great.

Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.

Have you got an update on this?MD4x4 wrote:Can u post some more info on the electronic dizzys?
Who sells them in NSW. Sydney - Newcastle areas?
Are they easy to fit yourself?
Are there any tricks?

I am also having problems finding someone from Sydney to supply and fit this for the $275 mark. The last place in Sydney I called quoted $380 supplied and fitted.
