Binding tailshaft

Post by Frankenyota »

Have a problem with my front driveshaft binding at transfer case end under full flex.
It's on a 83 lux with RUF, dual cases with comm v6 and auto.
Front mount is 2" down 1" forward, extended shackles 160mm eye to eye.[ just fitted ]

Thinking the new shackles might be too long as the front diff pinion points down. Maybe cut down to 125mm?

Or a double cardinal joint may fix the binding?

Any sugguestions would be great.

You should already have a double cardon if not you need one and if you can afford to get a high pinion get one

and a 84 extra cab

When i made the front shaft from SHS i used standard uni's on both ends.
Thought it would be ok as the dual cases made the shaft longer.
Read somewhere that uni's get a higher angle?

Will try the double cardon joint, cheers.
Do high pinions come in 4.88?

2" extended front shackles are only 125mm centre to centre, so I would shorten them up, this is what I use in the front of hilux's with RUF

When i got the superior shackles 2nd hand i was told they were 2" extended
Should of asked for the pin to pin lenght.
Do you run a dropped front hanger with 125mm shackles?

I hope you did not use the 83 hilux shaft because they have crap flex
When I do any front shaft mods I use 1990 shafts because the have lots more flex

Used gen1 hilux stuff as i had heaps of parts laying around. The pinion flange is different to the later models?
What gives the later model shafts more flex?
