td42 pump issue

Post by GOT MUD »

I noticed yesterday while having a play that the engine was breaking down under load doing hill climbs etc. Seems to be an fuel issue but not sure, and before people ask had heaps of fuel in tank ;) the pump was done up by previous owner so dont know full history of it.So i mainly asking if anyone else has had a similar issue and how they went sorting it .

cheers

I had the same problem. I changed the fuel filter and it solved my problem. When I drained the filter the diesel came out clear but the filter was clogged. If the fuel filter is not the problem, check the little filter under the banjo fitting on the top of your IP. If it is none of these, then I would check the lift pump next. Also, bad injectors could cause this problem. Does it blow a lot of black smoke when your climbing up the hill? If it does, then it is getting more than enough fuel. I would then concentrate on checking the injectors for their spray pattern.

have a look at the small gauze filter at the bottom of the fuel fitting on the pump. You have to pull the fuel line of the pump and have a fish for the filter, this is probably full of muck.

remove the banjo fitting on the top of the pump, beingcarefull not to drop the brass washers and other crap underneath it.
inside that hole you will find a little peice of gause. remove and rince with diesel
put it all back together prime it all back up and see if it makes a difference.

on the down side if this doesnt fix it id be willing to bet you either have pump or injector issues, or if your unfortunate like me they could both be fully shagged. as mine used to do this amonst other things
