GQ cv Question

Post by sudso »

Just pulled a front axle out of the axle tube and there is nearly 1mm of end play where the cv joins onto the axle (it slides back and forwards a touch)

Is this normal or a sign of wear?
Also how is the cv removed from the axle itself?

I'm just doing a swivel hub overhaul and want it all ok cos I dont want to pull it all apart again for a fair while

cheers, sudso

yes thats normal for it to move on the axle its held on by a spring clip just hold the axle and hit the cv joint of with a brass hammer sometimes they just drop of othertimes they take some serious belting just dont hit the cage.also check the axle where the seal runs if its grooved you might have to polish it out with some emery paper in a lathe

Thanks so much. I'll give it a love tap.
The inner seal was leaking and oil made its way through the cv joint itself so I want to separate it from the axle to clean it up properly and regrease it.

cheers

good luck on getting the axle out of the cv, not many people have much luck with gq ones.
