wiring diagram for rock lights

Would anyone have a basic diagram for wiring up rock lights.We are going to be using cheap and nasty 55w driving lights you get from supercheap.We have figured out that we will earth each light out on the bracket they come with,and probably have anywhere from 4 to 6 off them.Any help would be great,

I'd do it the same as for foggies, dash switch, relay, tapped into parkers hot wire for juice.

I'd also look into the bunnings pond lights. Seem like a cheapish water proof alternative.

Any driving light wiring diagram should help, just draw your power from the parkers instead of the high beams.

Hi muduppig, here is a driving light wiring diagram and as Bowhunter suggested, instead of connecting the wire from the toggle switch to the headlight’s high beam wire, connect it to your parking lights wire.

Also, the toggle switch shown in the diagram is a three way switch ( ON - OFF - ON ) and if you want, you can connect one side to you parking light wire, the centre is connected to the coil of your relay(s) as shown and the other side can be connected to the battery positive.

In this set up, with the switch set to the first position, your rock lights will only work while your parking lights are on.

In the centre position, the rock lights will be off at all times

In the third position, the rock lights will be on at all times.

thats a top diagram cheers but would you agree that i should run 2 seperate systems for say 4 lights and 3 for 6 etc

Whether you run extra relays is up to you.

If you are only planning to run 4 x 55w lights then one relay would easily handle the current load.

Even if you run 6 x 55w lights, a standard headlight relay will handle the current load BUT you are now getting close to the maximum load of the relay so for 6 lights, using two relays would be a better set up.

i am going to put some of those supercheap auto lights under my hilux as rock lights can i just run power from the battery to a switch than wires from the switch to the lights ?

Sure can but make sure the switch can easily handle the current required by all the lights otherwise the switch will just melt and/or burn out and don’t foget to put a fuse in the positive wire at the battery.

id do a fused relay to keep it safe. and power the switch from the battery.

yeah i have all the stuff to wire it up i just have to get round to doin it i am gunna use the fuse relay set up cheers
