i think that my 02 3L has gone into link mode it will not let my take it any higher then 3000rpm so how can i tell whats wrong
First up, did you get the engine warning light come on? I'm assuming you did, because that's the indicator that the ECU has sensed a fault, and the ECU is the one that will put it into limp mode.
Here's how to get the faults from the ECU on a ZD30
Locate the diagnostic terminal. Under the dash, just to the right of the steering column is the diagnostic connection (white, 16 terminal, twin row plug).See below for terminal layout of connector...

[ 8 ][ 7 ][ 6 ][ 5][ 4][ 3 ][ 2 ][ 1 ]
1. Have fully charged battery, turn off all accessories, turn ignition to ON, but DO NOT start the motor.
2. You need to short terminals 1 and 8, for about 2 seconds. 3 inch piece of wire will do the trick.
3. The engine light will start flashing in a series of long and slow flashes. Start counting and write down the code. eg. Seven long flashes = 07, five short flashes = 05... fault code of 0705 = Injection Pump ECU.
4. IMPORTANT!! After you have recorded ALL codes (it will cycle around and around through any faults stored in the ECU), you can reset the ECU by shorting terminals 1 & 8 again for another 2 seconds. This should also take it out of limp mode too.
There is just shy of 30 fault codes in the Gregory's manual for the GU ZD30, so I won't post them all here now. This method is all there (albeit a bit more professional and with pictures!). I have done this on mine quite a few times, with no ill effects - all my problems are mechanical! My advice is to go and buy a Gregory's Manual, it's good for a heap of stuff, not just the ZD30 motor.

Hey guys, I work at toyota dealership, we had a 06 hilux with the 3 litre turbo direct injection with a similar prob, wouldnt rev and was stuck in limp mode. We plugged all our wizz bang crap into it and everything showed fine, turned out to be a few batchs of shitty diesel, and rust from a aftermarket steel long rank tank, they come out with a plastic one. was a big dollar job to repair, rebuild pump new injecters and alot of swearing
