Folks,

I am considering changing from my 75series ute to a dual cab HiLux (bub on the way, need more seats) See this post in the 'yota section for more detail http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic.php?t=94496

I am very keen to acquire a solid axle Lux, and figured this means I need a pre '97 model.

Alternatively, I have gotten to wondering what the likely cost of SASing a later model Lux would be, that is, a post '97 model.

Any one have any idea, or advice the Lux acquisition idea in general?

Get an early '97 should still be solid axle.
Last quote i hear for SAS was $8000

You`ll be better off getting an 80 series. You`ll only be wishing you did in a few years anyway. I have one of each and would get rid of my hilux if it didn`t have so much time and money in it. :roll:

A lot of people do say an 80 is the way to go, and I do like my 75 so am tempted to get another 'Cruiser. However, I have two main problems with the idea of an 80. i) There is not ute option (I am not keen on towing) and ii) I am quite reluctant to have a 3 tonne vehicle for an only vehicle. I see no need to push this much weight around all the time, when I suspect a Luxy would do the job, and have a tray :-) 80's have a lot of expensive panels to damage in the bush......

Also, TD 80's have gotten very expensive lately.........

I love mine but I`m just over modding it to make it any good.

First thing that will shit you about a hilux is the lack of power, mines great there now as its V8 :finger:

have you considered a dual cab 80 series? secondhand... im sure you can get one within your budget.

Coming from a NA 2H powered 75, anything would feel punchy I reckon.........

Do you mean a chopped/uted 80?

Woulde be interesting I guess, although I haven't seen any.

I understand it costs about $7000 to chop an 80(so I'm told...)

Still a big heavy lump with lots of exxy panels to damage.

I would put a flat tray on Lux. In my current ute, I have whacked lots of trees and rocks with the tray, and it doesn't mind. Were there panels there instead (ala 80s) I think it could get pricey quickly.............

I am struggling to find TD 80's for less than 20K lately too...... 20K + mods is too much wedge for my pocket :cry:

I've got a 91 DC lux with the 2.8d and love it, but the biggest things that sh*ts me is the lack of power, especially on the longer trips.

If you don't need a ute for work or tax reasons then do what GUTS has said.
Get an 80 series>

I am thinking a 93-97 Lux is what I need.

I hear the steering is the weak link in these though.

Can anyone tell me how to improve this and what it's likely to cost?

Yeah i broke mine and fitted highsteer :armsup:
Parts = $1200 from http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/
Plus IFS P/S box = $200
Plus fitment = $?????? depends on if you can do it yourself or need someone like Superior or Bubs to fit it
