TD42 Pistons
does anyone know what the difference in the pistons are between the turbo TD42 out of a GU and the N/A TD42. Pics of the two would be great but any info is appreciated.
Is there any other difference to the internals of these two engines?
Is there a better set of pistons to put in to get better performance?
Im replaceing a bent rod in mine and was wondering if i should change all the pistons at the same time.

There is nothing wrong with the pistions in there at the moment so the only change will be if i can upgrade them. It wont be getting resleeved as the inside of the bore looks excellent. Im sort of on a budget too so i dont think i will be able to afford forged gear even though it would be nice.

may i ask what sort of power you are chasing and what sort of setup to need stronger pistons in a td42.
aslong as the egt's dont get over 550 id highly doubt you would destroy a piston.
also what year motor is it. im lead to beleive the pistons are all relatively the same. but the is other differences in the later motors, like no oil squirters in the top end and lighter crank n rods

thanks for that, in your last post there you list a few different rod no.'s. would you recomend changing all the rods to the 28mm pin? I assume its the early model part no.
im still unclear as to weather i need to try and track down pistons from an old engine or i can use the new ones from a turbo GU engine? or for that matter maybe an aftermarket set?

keep the info coming guys, im not building this my self as i dont have the skills or knowlege (as if you didnt already know that), but i have a GU locked up in a workshop over the christmas break untill i can get the job finished which i need to make some decisions on. i also need it back before the australia day weekend for competition so i cant waste any time.
Ive run 25psi plus into a 95 gq. no probs. And they have the supposeably weaker pistons. And I thouhgt the gu had the 30mm gudgeon because I was going to but them into my engine but found out the gudgeon was bigger and you needed to change rods aswel. $250 a pop. So didn't end up doing it.Change one rod/piston and be done with it.
