"Rollcage Padding" Best product for and where from

I have a internal roll cage and was wondering where everyone gets there padding from and whats the best materal for it eg Foam or rubber.

Have a look at copper pipe insulation (lagging) from your local plumbers store such as Reese ect... It comes in various diamiters to suit your tube and it is very inexpencive. Around 6-7 bucks a 3m length. Another advantage over the offset suff is that it takes up less space giving more head room. Also note that the density of this foam insulation seems to keep the engineers and other relitive authoritys happy.

Yep you can also try refrigeration wholesale places, that's where I got mine. Got the offset hole and everything, and much cheaper than buying from a bloody racing car shop.

The stuff I've used is called armaflex.

I have seen someone use one of the pool noodle floatie things that kids play with in pools, Looked pretty with the colours he used.

Depending on your application, you might not be able to use just any foam tube for padding.
CAMS require the material to be non-flammable, I imagine pool noodles would be quite flammable.
I got some padding from Clark rubber a couple of years ago that was ok, but some of their stuff burned very well.

the stuff from race shops might ne more expensive but it's rated for the purpose of protection heads from roll bars......
I don't know about your ugly noggins, but my pretty skull is worth more than a few bucks saved by going the lagged noodle option

I'm hearing ya Wooders, why skimp on a body part we were only supplied "1" of.

x2 the proper stuff is much thikcer and more dense so it will deal with a decent blow, the pipe insulation is very thin abd not very dense to it will allowfor a big hit.

forget price and the the good stuff, your head is an important peice of your body

some race joint in hallem had the perfect stuff.

get the right stuff i reckon.

I asked Vic roads about what to use a while ago. No specific material, but density must be similar to that used in sun-visors, so as to absorb impact not just cushion your head before it hits cage.

If Clarke Rubber sell the right stuff, i don't see how an empty wallet will save your head. (read the first bit of that sentence twice before having a go)

The real stuff is stupidly over sized and hard. It is square, sticks out about 40mm from the roll cage and is as hard as plastic. We had a big roll in rally OZ a few years ago and i wacked my head on it, it F..KEN hurt and i now have a very large graze on my helmet from it . The pool noodle stuff was alot better.

There's another good discussion about this on here somewhere, I read it before purchasing my padding. From memory it needs to be around 40mm thick and of a certain density, and armaflex is suitable.

Save your money, it's the same shit without the pretty colours of the stuff sold at race shops.
