Not sure completly on this but wouldn't a Garrett T4oE turbo bolt on and make good HP figures and spool down low?
Or u could go Ball Bearing like some others are doing..
Big Red Toy wrote:My turbo kicked the bucket the other night & the bushes, shaft, compressor wheel are all buggered
So dropped it in to be looked at & they are after $1100 to fix it, which might not be so bad, but more than i was expecting
Its an AXT turbo which is kinda a bitsa garrett assembled by AXT. i was looking at other options as to what else will bolt on & suit a diesel.
The turbo for the new xr6 bolts on but it wouldn't kick in till after my rev range so kinda useless so just after peoples thoughts / experiences
Cheers
Andrew
Hey andy your probably better of just getting it rebuilt..
The only other option is put a roller bearing on, however you will need change your manifold and will need to buy new oil lines and what not. And would end up costing over 3k.
There isnt a great deal of difference between most the axt kits, mtq and so forth...
how many kms did the turbo do?

Other option is to get some qoutes on the repair of the turbo speak to sandy he sends off a few turbo's to get rebuilt and and at the same time you maybe be able to change the impella housing for a little bit and get it high flowed. or do a couple of other things with it...

the xr6 turbos are made by garret and arnt a single ball bearing i am pretty sure they are twin ball bearing they are good on 4x4;s guys hav said may be a bit more pricey but worth it
The problem with the XR6 turbo is it runs the 1.06 internal gate exhaust housing which means it will spool up later than the other GT35's available. AFAIK the .63 and .82 housings do not come with internal gate. If im wrong let me know because im going out to buy a .63 internal gate housing for my car
If you fitted a GT35R with .62 housing id be guessing youd have 8psi around 2500 maybe 2800rpm on a 4.2 petrol. You need external gate and lines etc, on a 4x4 its going to be a pain in the arse.
As for manifolds. Buy the turbo to suit your manifold. I'd expect its either a T2 or T3 manifold, and there are plenty of choices of either in roller bearing turbos.
Most cases its easier/cheaper and more reliable to keep the standard setup... but where is the fun in that...?
