body lift is in- now problems with gear lever
ok im going to do a body lift on my 92 single cab lux. just 2inch lift. im going to make it myself out of nylon blocks and hightensile bolts. aside from cutting the floor around the gear lever do i need to do anything else? im aware i have to lift the bullbar as well so if anyone could give me some tips that would be great!
as for lifting it do i just take one side of bolts out and jack the body up and chuck in the blocks and put new bolts in? and how do i go about cutting the floor?
cheers jack

cutting the floor is not necessary i managed to heat and bend my gearsticks so floor cutting wasn't necessary abit of a pain in the arse but it can be done. i done 1 side at a time like you thought to do also. i cut my bar where the plates mount to ya chassis and moved the bar up to where it should sit then took it all back off and plated it all and welded so more. in my opinion can never over engineer something as important as this. hope this makes some sense.
Gu Ute,
longer steering shaft would help because you don't want it to pull apart. it will still fit with the std lenght one but it only just has enough mine pulled apart in where the tilt joint in the coulm isout the push at night which was a big pain in the ass. http://www.superiorengineering.com.au/p ... category=4 about 3/4 of the way down the page or you can cut it get a peice of pipe it fits into and make it longer that way.
plenty of parts on the bench
Drill the holes in the nylon with a drill that matches the bolt sizes exactly. That way they will be slightly smaller than the bolt and the bolts will need to be tapped in (tight fit = Good).
Make some 50mm radiator dropper brackets as well to avoid stress on the hoses.
repositioning requires metal working tools and skills, or someone with a workshop.
Cheers

well body lift is done and on the tray as well. looks good but i still gotta lift the bullbar so any tips on that would be great. i got a workshop i have unrestricted acesss to and a bloody good welder/fabricater if i need a hand. only thing i gotta sort out tomorrow is bending the gear lever as the boots around 4wd and 2wd sticks hit each other and order my steering shaft extension.
shall put pics up soon

ok bodylift is in and steering shaft extension is on way from snakeracing. now after looking closely at gear lever boots it appears they are the problem not the lever itself.
so when i undid the bracket that holds the boots down and put it in 2nd, 4th, rev it was fine but as soon as i tightened it all back up it pops out of gear.
is there anyway of getting around this? could i get a bigger boot or sumthing to fit? its rather noisy with a gaping hole around the levers when they are in 2nd,4th and reverse.

I did some "stanley knife surgery" on my boots, (4Runner) even though I extended the gear stick. Most of the surgery was to free up the stubby stick.
Just do as little surgery as possible to avoid the transmission stink getting into the cab.
Finding some kind of universal boot would be a good option, don't know if they exist though.
Cheers

theres no need to cut the rubber just heat the main gear stick up with an oxy and bend it slightly nort/west just below the rubber not to much or when you change gears you will punch the radioStruth wrote:I did some "stanley knife surgery" on my boots, (4Runner) even though I extended the gear stick. One more thing I forgot mate.
There is a metal plate between it all, it is square and has a cross brace through it(very thin metal and looks like a "H")
Cut the centre piece out of it. Sorry about forgetting that, I can just see ya putting it all together without cutting it and finding it won't get reverse, whoops
