2000 gu 2.8 tdi

Post by uninformed »

hey guys.

im a rover guy, so know squat about nissan's

my neighbour has a 2000 gu tdi wagon and wants to upgrade the exhaust.

#1 will removing the big stock muffler and replacing with a lenght of pipe make any difference(will the turbo spool up quicker)

#2 if he upgrades the whole exhaust to a bigger more free flowing design is there any other mods he MUST do ie: fuel or elec/computer stuff. or can he get gains just with a better exhaust?

cheers, serg

on the GQs, not sure bout the GUs, but same engine so I imagine so, apparently there is a plate on the turbo that is smaller than the pipe and limits the flow of the turbo, I understand that dilling this out helps alot, also bigger exaust that is fre flowing will help, can turn the fual up a bit but best to do what you want with the zaust and go get it dynoed.

and the 2.8ts are better off being dialed in by a good diesel tequ who knows there 2.8s as they are a problem with heating right up when you play with the fuel on them. Aswell as heating up when you dont even touch them  But i reckon 2.5in mandrel with dump pipe and a good tune on the pump will make it spool a bit quicker but i think on the GUs you can get the upgrade chip from Motsons or the like.

Check this out as they claim 30% more power and increase in torque and throttle response

correct in saying that the 2.8 motor was a carry over from the gq, but the gu 2.8s were upgraded to electronic engine mmanagement, computer controlled fly by wire accelerator, injector pump, timing, and a few other bits and pieces i belive, last time i checked there was an aftermarket chip avaliable, but that was about a year or more ago,

DP CHIP, STEINBAUER, MOTSON, RAPID, BLA BLA BLA....
THERES HEAPS OF "CHIPS" AVAILABLE. THEY COST FROM $1000 TO $1500 FITTED AND ANYONE WHO HAS ONE WILL TELL YOU, THEYRE WELL WORTH THE MONEY.
SO ARE EXHAUSTS. I HAD A 2.75" MANDREL SYSTEM FITTED AND IT DOES SPOOL UP QUICKER, AND NO OTHER MODS ARE REQUIRED.
