Leaking Rear Axle Seals
Leaking Rear Axle Seals
Has anyone out there had probs with the rear axle seals leaking into the drums ?
When I purchased the vit it had leaking seals, so I replaced them with non genuine ones and they arn,t much better At repco they were saying there should be an inner and and outer seal on the axle but this one only has one per side, Is there a seal missing or what?

You'll probably find your bearings are stuffed. The play in them when they're worn kills the seals in no time.
If you hear a loud humming sound as you speed up or when going round a corner, then your bearings need urgent attention !
Cheers,

anybody got an idea what it could be .... you can only slighty hear it when drivning on flat ... but when you go up a slightly steep hill its grinding ... sorta sounded like a drum niose at first but no luck there too

vitaras do have 2 seals on each axle if its a factory fit.
every aftermarket seal and bearing kit i have seen has only the one.
as stated down below check to make sure your bearings are fine.
it can also be caused by a slightly bent axle, so check this too.

I had this problem with my sierra!!!
I got the bearings replaced, seals replaced "twice" by mechanic! and had axle straightened. AND IT STILL LEAKED. I took it to suzisport i put a second hand axle in and got new seals ...... BUT this time i got 2 seals. there should be a pre-seal. this little pre-seal doesn't come normally with the other seal. This one pre-seal seamed to be the cause of the problem as the mechanic just re-used the old stuffed one as none were in the kits.
Thats what I think is happening with yours.
hasn't leaked since

ive got my rear axles out. drivers side axle was stuck. bought a $20 dent puller from supercheap. came off easy.
i take it the bearings shouldnt have any play in them. mine wobble about 1/2 to 1 mm
does anyone know how hard it is to remove the bearing retainer ring. in the fsm they say to grind it off.
how do you take the bearing off. i gather it fits quite tight around the axle.
do u need a press to put a new set of bearings back on.
or is it easier to take to a mechanic have them remove and put on a new set.
