Bundera Engine Conversion- COMPLETED!!
Moderators: toaddog, Elmo, DUDELUX
dude, it's not completed until we see intercooler, boost gauge pegged past 15psi, and a 14 second quarter mile docket
Put some slicks under the arse and give it a launch, see if you can't wheelstand it
Seriously Bundera lookin good mate, good job. You'll be disappointed with the performance of any rig you buy after this one How'd it go budget wise, under/ over what you thought
Thanks for all your positive feedback, i really appreciate it.
The UHF is din size and fits perfectly in the dash.
Thinking it might be better to get anothr rig (between dad and I) for just the cape trip and sell it when we get back. As mine is fine for down here!
As for getting it to wheelstand it wont as the MTR's dont have enough grip. They spin pretty well though. (not that I will be making a habbit of it $$$)
As for the gearbox it is holding up ok.
Took it on a track 5mins from my house last night and it walked all over it. Got bogged once, so I got her on boost and dumped it. never seen soo much dirt/mud/grass/rocks go flying and it just hoped out!! Truely awesome!! The old engine would have just shat itself.
As for the intercooler, I am still not sure what I am going todo, I had a little play with the one of the supra in a front mount position the other day. Will have to get the intercooler inlet and outlet pipes modified slightly.
I was thinking about removing the engine driven fan and putting in a 12-15" thermo fan... would it be better to leave it as it is or put in a thermo fan? Only reason I ask is I need better cooling...
15PSI boost..hmmmm I doubt I could afford the petrol.. would be nice though.
I will be taking it to transport in the next week or two.
Regards,
Nick

well when daniel reads this maybe he could post a pic of his thermo fan setup. Thanks Daniel !! And maybe other people could post up pics of their cooling setups as well to give me and other people ideas.
As for lifting the back of the bonnet. yeah i remember that u and some other people have mentioned that. Will see what happens with the thermo and if that doesn't help I will lift the back of the bonnet as a last resort.
Regarding the cooling system it isn't overheating. It is just running a little too hot.

Nick

With previous modified cars ive owned which have been on the cooling boderline, ive found after removing the engine fan and replacing with a thermo fan it gets pushed over the edge, they dont seem to be as efficeient as the factory engine driven fan.
Im thinking about going for a thin aluminium radiator so there is ample room for AC condenser and intercooler, hopefully will be able to keep the standard 1JZ engine fan. Ducting/shrouding is also very impotant for a successful cooling system.

Skip is right. The big factory clutch/viscous fan on the motor flow HUGE amounts of air. Thermos are only good if you dont have the space to run the engine fan. Never seen a thermo cool as well as a engine fan.

robbie: The car cost me $7300 AUD.
BUNDERA: Will find the trim code and post it next time.
After sitting the two motors next to each other I notice the 1JZ is a fair bit longer. Will definetly have to upgrade the radiator as I need to fit the aircon condenser and a descent intercooler in the front, may go for an aluminium job. Nothing worse than a car with cooling problems.
Some more pics.
