A long time ago, in a far away land....
Toyota fitted drums on the first of the 80 series. I've chewed one up slightly and went to get a replacement. The aftermarket drums turned up and "What the...?" they're 25 mm narrower. Brake guy informs me that the Truk is fitted with a "heavy duty" rear end. A check with Toyota shows drums available for a semi-floating axle, but only a full float hub/drum combination otherwise, with no dimensions. Also worth lots of $$$$$$.
Anyone else encountered this? I always thought the 'cruisers were full floaters at the rear.

Early 80 series rear brakes

All Aussie spec 80's are fully floating ( heavy duty ) rear axle but some of the early DX's pre 10/92 build date had rear drums ( not very common) drums may be hard to get and if you want to convert to disc you need the disc brake axle rear housing , callipers, disc's backing plates and h/brake cable. The parts that will fit from your existing diff are the diff centre, axles and hubs all the rest need to be replaced.

Apparently the semi floaters are all US spec.
Aftermarket drums are availalble, but they're only 68mm deep (measured inside from back of drum). Mine are close on 100mm, which means the hub must also be longer.
Anyone else out there with a '91 Standard (barn door) 'cruiser with rear drums? How wide are your drums??
