Vitara Earthing issues .....rear of rig

Post by A1 »

Well I've finally got the Vit going again this arv ....10 litres of petty .....alot of sweat ....a heap of what the FAWK..... :bad-words: ...

I checked the fuel pump a few weeks ago when i tried getting it going ...and when the pump was outta the tank I could hear it wrking ( yay) .... put it back in couldnt get it goin it would fire then run for a few seconds then nothing ........wasnt sure what the go was .....main thought was not enough petty in the tank ....so Ive finally got around to getting some .....

chuck it in ....... still wouldnt start - it would turn over ..but wouldnt fire .....thought maybe Ive farked up the wiring for the shift light( ie tied into the wrong wire on the back of then dash and done a fuse or computer ............checked everything seems fine .....

then see some lights on the floor of the rig ....the number plate lights and think I may just put these in and see if they work .....NO the dont , so I think mmm maybe there is a earth for the rear lights (as the front are working ) fuel pump and fuel sender ...... cant find anything but a heap of plugs that from memory werent connected .....so I grab a peice of tig wire (closest thing handy being a welding shop lol) and jam under the earth wire of the pump and just put into a un-used bolt hole ........turn it over ......winds over a bit them hey PRESTO its running  .....

( so after the above story )

does anyone know where there may be a rear earthing point that ties in all these items .........as the tig wire isnt the best fix and was getting a wee bit hot .... .... ;) )

Depending on wiring config, i know that one of them uses the rear brake light for the ecu memory wire i believe.

Also may sure u have got a decent earth from the engine to chassis and bat to engine and chassis to body. i think that was all of them. :?:

Ok rear light as in tail/blinker/stop all good ......still cant get the number plate lights to wrk and I still have no fuel level sender working ....not sure on the pump I just had it running for a bit
......waiting for it to stop from lack of petty but it didnt ....maybe I didnt wait long enough .......but its pretty fawking loud now with the eaxhaust finishing at the bottom of the extractors .......need that exhaust ...........

So I turned it off so it wouldnt piss of the neighbours around wrk  will try again tomoz

I did find an earth that fixed the light issue ......I had taped it up along with the rear door internal light switch wires  .......

will check it out some more 2moz

easiest way,

Get some thick wire 6-10mm,

Wire on a direct earth to the chassi and the other to the fuel pump, do the same with 3mm wire for the rear light.

Yeah thats the last resort .......I would really like to find where the wire is that needs to go back...........I'm 100% certain that I didnt cut any offending wires during the chop .....

But yes your correct with the Fix and if I cant find it thats what will be done ......the wires wont need to be so big the ones coming off the sender and pump would be less that 2.5 ........

cheers

The main earth wire is bolted above the rear left wheel arch. If you remove the inside panel there you will find 2 x 2.5mm black wires bolted to the body

Yup thats the one that I had taped to the old rear door internal light wire .... ......and yes under further inspection the sender is now working ......so I will check the pump but I'd say it will be fine ......

I yeah my wheel arch has been @ the scrap metal yard for bout 11 months

cheers fellas
