Turbo Diesel.. cat convertor.. can i get rid of it?
Ok i just got a 3" mandrel bent exhaust put on my new triton. its from the cat back.. (the cat is bolted directly to the back of the turbo)
now it does go better but it makes no noise watsoever! it has a pissy lil straight thur muffler on it and its still quiet as!
so my question is, wil it hurt to get rid of the cat...
and dont give me all the crap about emmisons stuff as i dont wanna hear about it..

Why?
You've got a great engine which performs well.
You want to spend more money for a fractional change in power, which will make a minor difference to your driving experience, and a negligible difference to your fuel economy.
At the expense of masses more toxins (carbon monoxide and unburnt hydrocarbons) released into the atmosphere and the risk of hefty fines should some authority notice.
You're kidding yourself. Leave it alone.

thanks Gut!
thats what i would do if i was determined to get rid of it.1Tuffrover wrote:just cut it open and bash all the crap out and then weld it back together! That way knowone knows.
The 3 litre turbo diesles Navaras had them too.
but i would probably just leave it in as there wont be too much gain from removing it

Actually, I read very well. But, just as you were determined to ignore my opinion, I decided to ignore yours.crankycruiser wrote:why? cos i wanna...-Scott- wrote:Why?

You don't want to hear it, but I wanted to say it.

Your very simple question was "will it hurt?"crankycruiser wrote:i didnt want ur opinion.. i wanted an answer to a VERY simple question
The answer is "Yes" - it will hurt the environment.
If you wanted a different answer you should have been more specific with your question.
But you're interested in improving the performance of your vehicle. Any such improvement will be negligible at best, so why do it?
You're kidding yourself. Leave it alone.

I already acknowledged you weren't interested in my opinion, after which you complained that I couldn't answer a simple question.
What was your simple question? "Will it hurt?"
The simple answer is "Yes."
We're arguing over what it will hurt, and the fact that you don't care.
I also believe any benefit to you will not be worth your effort - a point you have repeatedly avoided addressing.
You're kidding yourself. Don't do it.
Thread closed? No it's not. If it were, I couldn't post in it.crankycruiser wrote:i want to get rid of the thing .. not for perfomance but for noise!
THREAD CLOSED..
cos i dont give a rats
So, we're getting closer to the mark. You want to remove the cat to INCREASE the noise your vehicle makes?
Right. I understand now. 'Nuff said.
Well, there ya go. I'd given you too much credit.crankycruiser wrote:idiot.. if ya read the first post it tells ya that
Lack of noise from an exhaust generally leads people to conclude that the exhaust is too restrictive, and must therefore be strangling the engine.
The next step in the thought process is typically to conclude that removing the restriction will allow the engine to breathe better, and thereby allow the engine to perform better.
This is the thought process I believed you were following, and your desire to remove the cat was fuelled by a desire for more performance.
However, you have just acknowledged that all you are interested in is creating more noise. Yep, I'm the idiot here.
