dash lights coming on when brake pushed

Post by dawg runner »

Gday,

My dash lights are coming on when i push the brake.

Just driving home from a mates place and i noticed this happening.

When the lights are on (night time) the rear globes dont differ when the brake is applied.

I cut out some wiring out for some foglights that are no longer in the car and it was spliced into the high beams. Nothing near the parker circuit.

I replaced the back globes also due to some water getting on the globes in a car wash and they smashed. both rear brake/parker lights and one reverse globe.

I have checked wiring into the back/front lights and does not look to be damaged anywhere.

Thanks

Dave

agree with oscars, you have put a single filament globe in a stop/tail double fil. socket it shorts the two out when you put your foot on the brake the power feeds back into the tail light loom and hence the dash lights.

pull all your globes out and discard any with only one "grey" blob on the bottom and replace with one with two grey blobs (21/5w stop/tail)

cheers

i had this happen to me when one of the tail lamps blew, the filament inside crossed to the parkers side and so when i pushed the brake it earthed throught the parkers circuite.

This symptom often indicates a dodgey earth connection
Check the rear globes as well as the earth strap to the chassis
