This is the problem, not the height.

I have proved the height of my roof lights legal....... in NSW anyway.

your not allowed anything protuding from the outside of the bullbar, so yes they will be illegal, in qld any way but i think most states would be the same on this one

I've been told by a copper that in Victoria the maximum diameter of anything within the drivers view is 30mm. Hence UHF aeriels are allowed but HF aeriels are not.

In NSW, you cannot have any dangerous objects protuding from the bullbar... Driving lights are OK, but any brackets or fishing rod holders etc are Illegal.
For safety reasons it is illegal to have:

*Any attachment or protrusion projecting forward of bull bar or bumper bar which presents a danger to other road users.

*Minor protrusions forward of the bull bar or bumper bar such as a spotlight, or fairleads required for the operation of a winch, where the mounting brackets do not protrude, are permitted providing the protrusion is the minimum necessary and is blunt or protected to minimise any risk of injury to vulnerable road users.

*Any bull bar or other attachment that does not allow the driver a view of the road and of the traffic to the front and side of the vehicle so that the driver can drive the vehicle safely.

Same here in QLD but a coppa mate told me that they have a hard time proving this if you contest it:
"so that the driver can drive the vehicle safely".
Kind Regards,

for a obstruction of vision in rta rule book states.

DRIVER MUST BE ABLE TO SEE A 45MM MARK 11M FROM THE DRIVERS HEAD REST.

Now that should be easy.
